Marijuana has been grown legally and illlegally in California for a long time and now with all the hype about the benefit of taking CBD Oil, cannabis shops are all over the place.
Marijuana was just legalized in Virginia as of July 1. No shops have cropped up, yet. Between the change in "grow your own" laws and the manufacturing hit from COVID, perlite and vermiculite are hard to come by and the prices have skyrocketed. Funny, this makes me recall the head shop in the back of the record store in my little town back in the early 70s (Penguin Feather), although I know it had been around longer than that. I forget exactly when it closed. I think the skyrocketing price of real estate forced it out.
There's a marijuana shop down the street from me. I haven't gone in yet. Smoking weed isn't something I want to do -- it stinks worse than cigarettes and I don't want that odor soaking into my rugs, walls, furniture, and curtains. But I have taken both CBD capsules and oil. I'd like to get a stronger form and try that for chronic pain.
Cannabis is everywhere here. There must be a good profit in it as there are so many shops and the parking lots are almost always empty. Marijuana has been legal in Alaska for personal use since 1977. The cannabis industry persuaded users here to tax and regulate themselves in order to be able to transport the stuff.
That stuff infuriates me. Since when do Americans rationalize getting our rights back solely because there's tax revenue in it? Pot's been illegal less than 90 years...just rescind the damn laws. Talk about overtly selling our freedoms. Same as state lotteries. Suddenly gambling became a little less evil.
