That's too bad...I've visited Hungary when it was still communist and it was very scary for me....Russian soldiers everywhere! After Communism...a different place for sure. My late husband fled Hungary in the 1956 revolution that happened there against the Russians....Hungary lost back then.
Bratislava is a lovely city - I like the wacky street sculpture that pops up (quite literally in the case of the man appearing from a manhole) all over the city. Slovakia also specialises in one of my favourite dishes, garlic soup.
Yes, awesome photos that I look at so many times... especially the food, hahahaaa. Why does it seem to me that Europe or any place outside of Asia is so clean. Those photos in Russia were full of snow so they are not part of what I'm saying. But here in Slovakia, even the river has clean water (the way I see it) and the surroundings look immaculately clean. But definitely, the place is alien to me and how I wish to go there someday. Thanks for the anecdotes and the photos.
Ooh, some lovely dark beer as well! I also had the garlic soup that comes loaded with cheese at the bottom of the bowl. A bit intimidating for the cholesterol levels, but delicious. I remember having garlic soup on a freezing cold day in Prague - that kept us warm for most of the afternoon.
I gotta try garlic soup. I love garlic. My x wifey hated garlic and didn't want me using it. Now I buy big jars of minced garlic and toss a heaping tablespoon of it in most everything.
There is a 'garlic restaurant' in Riga, where all dishes contain garlic. You can even have desserts containing garlic.
Oh the feels! The pics are lovely, and the food looks divine. I am addicted to garlic. Onions, garlic, mushrooms, and sweet red pepper are staples in almost everything I cook. I so enjoy armchair travelling with you, Terry. Many thanks.
