Our house was surrounded with people banging on the door and shining lights through the windows. My first instinct was to grab a gun but I saw a man on the back porch and hollered "who is it". He shined the light on himself showing SHERIFF so I turned on a light and went to the door and let him in. My wife was beside me and he asked if we were okay then let the others in. It turn out my wife had been fooling with her phone (actually trying to turn the tv off) and had pushed the 5 star button. She didn't respond to the operator so he called the sheriff's office. Well, at least we know the emergency system works
I'm sure that was frightening, @Sheldon Scott . I'm glad it turned out all right. By 5 star, do you mean that if you press 5 then the star button, it is an emergency code?
That’s a new one on me but nice to know. Now, my wife and I have Apple Watches which, when bumped or if we move our watch wrists too quickly will alert us and ask if we’re okay. If for whatever reason we do not answer it fairly quickly, it will alert the authorities or EMS that there is an emergency afoot. I do fear that someday we’ll have something similar to Sheldon’s incident occur and have very little excuse except to show the guy our watches.
Do you have a special phone with a 5-star key? All my phones have the 6 points "star" key that I use with another number for my call blocking system..
The newer iPhones also have an emergency call feature but I think you have to activate it in the phone settings. Last weekend my husband was carrying a large box with his phone in one hand and accidentally dialed 911. It's some combination of holding certain buttons at the same time or something. Thankfully he noticed before the police came.
@Sheldon Scott Thanks for the photo. That looks easy to hit accidentally. Being a flip-top at least no worries of butt dialing.
