The Air Force jazz band in The Airmen of Note. My older brother was in high band school with a trumpet player who joined them. A few years later, I was in high school band with the guy's brother, a trombone player who also joined The Airmen of Note.

The Army's jazz band is The Army Blues. The Army Band website says they were informally formed in 1970 and then became a formal part of the organization in 1972. There is no reference to The Jazz Ambassadors. The Army Field Band website says that The Jazz Ambassadors were formed in 1969. There is no reference to The Army Blues. The Ambassadors website makes mention of the band's international travels. I know that my brother went abroad a number of times with The Blues. I never heard him mention The Jazz Ambassadors, nor have I ever heard of them. The Ambassadors are not a subset of The Blues because they both consist of 19 musicians.

These both seem to be legit websites. The first one lists audition dates, while the second one has a .mil email address. I sent an email and asked.

I played trumpet starting in the 4th grade. I was never any good at it, but band was my social outlet all the way through high school. I had a younger brother who was a virtuoso trombone player. Back in the day, there were still places in the DC area that had live big band music. While in high school Bob played in those bands and always sat 1st Chair above the older guys.

It's tough to hack out a living playing a horn. There are very few local or regional symphonies that can be relied upon for an entire career. The service bands are one of the few options left. Bob was a mechanic, and eventually bought some land and built his own shop.

For every instrumentalist Who makes a career with it, They're probably thousands who don't.
I wish I had at least learned to read music. I've had this thing for music since I was a toddler. My parents told me, right after I started walking, I played music on the radio.

I like watching The Voice singing competition show. The amount of talent out there in music, sports, etc is incredible.

One of the retirement things I have not done is to take piano lessons. I want to learn to read bass clef. I also would like to take music composition classes.

I have to brag a little. My grandson is 8 years old. My daughter had a piano brought in about two months ago, My grandson is already Playing five melodies by ear. The funny thing Is, He plays a few minutes before school and maybe another five or ten minutes at night. He improvises his own melodies and they're really nice.
He doesn't get a chance for a lot of playing time because the piano Isn't far from the TV and he's not allowed to play when the TV is on, and it's on a lot. In music class yesterday the teacher heard him tinkering on the piano, and asked him to play for the class. He did.

I had 5 siblings. We all played an instrument. It's a good thing to do.

ps: Throw the TV out the window.
