There is NO way that we can have our family over here for the holidays,, They all live way too far away for example, we are in Northern Ontario while some are in New Zealand.. We won't be in any condition to receive visitors while Annmarie will be off her foot.. That will be for about 6 weeks or so.. Best thing is to just forget the holidays this year.. Both Chanukah and Christmas..
@Steve North " Best thing is to just forget the holidays this year" I, too, have been postponing some important things, all the while wondering: will next year show up for me? Frank
Frank.. As long as we can keep on living healthy, what does it matter if we celebrate or not. Naturally it would be nice to be able to enjoy both Chanukah and Christmas, but if we can't, we can't......
My dear wife is all prepared and ready to go to the hospital for her ankle operation which is on December 12th.. The house is also ready with a knee scooter, a walker, a transfer bench for the bathtub, and a ramp to come into the house.. We already have a stair lift which avoids stairs.. Hopefully I will be finished with my physio by then.. I think so ...... She will be going to physio for several months after surgery which means, on the highway during those awful winter days.. I will definitely do it for her..
I'm not sure if this goes here, but it is about my wife's surgery, so............. She wanted me to get a laptop computer for her so she can use it while sitting in the living room in her recliner chair.. At present we only have a desktop in the 2nd bedroom upstairs.. I bought her a laptop and was very surprised.. It is only about one inch thick.. compared to my other one, it is a joke.. This one weighs nothing and is easy to handle.. Just fold it up and it looks like a small tray.. I think it has a 14" screen.. Well, on my desktop I thought it was a powerful unit with 500g of hard drive and 8g of ram... This laptop has..... 1 (one) terabyte of hard drive and 10 gigs of ram... Talk about being outdone by a one inch thick computer.. The only thing is my monitor is bigger than the laptop.. otherwise, it is just as good as mine if not better.. She is having trouble using the built-in mouse, so I got her a mouse that is separate one and she likes that.. I still like my desktop better, but I also enjoy using the laptop..
Looks like your wife might have gotten an early Christmas present with that new Laptop even though y'all won't be celebrating it this year @Steve North. I love my touch screen laptop. I was curious as to whether your Health coverage includes in home assistance if you and your wife should need this once she is home from having her ankle surgery?
She will be getting (like I did) some nurses to come here 3 times a week to give her a shower.. She will also get (like I did) a physiotherapist come to the house to get her going with some simple exercises.. She will also get (like I did) someone to come here to make sure we have everything necessary for her to function such as a walker, cane, shower seat, safety bars in the bathroom, proper sleeping accommodations with access to the bed, access to the toilet, and so on.. Should there be something lacking, they will have it installed or supplied or modified.. She will also get (like I did) a dietician come here to make sure she is eating properly .. All of the above is part of our health care system and is at NO cost to us...... Hers isn't a touch screen but just a laptop.. It is an ..... ACER.... I don't know if it is a good one or not, but it seems to be OK.. it doesn't have a slot for inserting a disk which isn't important to us anyway.. Bottom line is, she is happy with it...
Just a quick thing about my wife, Annmarie .... She has been on low carb for the past 6 weeks and she has lost 24 pounds so far.. This will help with, the "learning how to walk again", after her surgery.. Her diabetes has improved drastically.. Her numbers are down.. She has reduced the amount of insulin she takes.. She generally feels much better with more "get up and go"... Monday she has an appointment with her surgeon and the following Monday we will be in Sudbury as her operation is scheduled for Tuesday the 12th at 8:00am.. Must be at the hospital for 6:00am on that day.. I will be spending the week there, and I will be at a hotel near the hospital in order to spend lots of time with her while she is there.. Operation on Tuesday and scheduled to be released on Friday.. I will be taking her laptop with me to the hotel, and I will keep you up to date as what is going on ..
How far is the highway drive Steve to take her to Physio. This is the one thing that has always prevented us from moving up to Northern Ontario although we had considered a larger city such as Thunder Bay. A friend of ours used one of those scooters when her Achilles Tendon tore...it helped a lot, she said she just had to watch corners in making a turn.
The operation is in Sudbury which is about one hour drive from our house.. The physio is in the hospital in Espanola which is a 30 minute drive from our house.. Physio will be (hopefully) on Monday and Friday.. Now, we MUST do our food shopping in Espanola on a Friday anyway, so physio will save us a trip there.. It really isn't that bad if you consider living in a large city and travelling about 30 minutes across town to go to the physio.. This way it is all highway with NO traffic.. I bought her a knee scooter about a month ago and she is slowly getting used to using it.. It is not easy to use but with some practice, it isn't that bad.. I had a ramp built to get into the front of the house.. Only 2 steps, but now we have a ramp..
OK... Annmarie is In the hospital and hopefully awaiting her surgery.. I brought her to the hospital at 6:00am and stayed with her as long as they allowed me to be there.. I am back in the hotel room and will await the phone call from the hospital when she is in her room... NOW.... Here in Sudbury, we are under an extreme snow storm warning.. Overnight at least 12 inches of snow fell and the winds were something else.. As I write this at just after 11:00am, it is still snowing and windy.. Good thing I have a car that is good in the snow with 4 studded snow tires and traction control..
Her operation went very well.. If nothing else, NO PAIN !!! I just got off the phone with her and she had bleeding, and the cast they put on was wet with blood.. They removed the cast, packed the wound, and gave her another cast.. Hopefully this time the bleeding will stop.. I will keep you posted on her condition as things change.. So far, she is scheduled to be released from the hospital on Friday and then HOME !!!
I just heard from her in the hospital.. Somehow they got her sitting up in a chair.. Don't ask me how they did it, but it is good for her to get out of bed.....
