I was thinking more like there were no cell towers to bounce off of, no security cameras on every corner, no "CSI", etc.
And I still think that crime was generally higher. We did not have the high-visibility horrors of the inner cities, but think it was worse than it is now. But how do we really measure it?
I've said the very same thing myself. These days everyone had a phone right on their person, so you ain't got no head start on the police. And everyone has a camera on their person. And in many places, traffic is so bad you can't flee. And the right to carry had been significantly expanded, so the criminals would be taking greater risks. Lots and lots of modern factors.
The Head is on now and torqued 61 lbs on Nissan, manifold with carb and exhaust are on. Getting it done and waiting on Van parts and fluid. Good to see the truck engine looking like an engine again.
It runs and sounds great. No more bubbling back in the radiator or overflow bottle. Idles are great and smooth.
After changing a head gasket and it still bubbling back at the radiator and overflow bottle I knew when I saw antifreeze in the # 2 cylinder, had to be the head. So happy now.
YAY!! That's good news. So it did not require any machining??? I wish I could do that kind of work. I guess you had to change the oil, too? Did you pull the pan? It all cascades... I'll throw out something that might make it better. I bought a Mazda in 2019 and did some reading. Hondas (CR-Vs and some Civics) have had problems with Oil Dilution...these new Computer Direct Inject engines (CDI) allow gas to wash down around the rings and into the crankcase. Some people have noticed the oil level rise 1 quart in between changes. Others have a constant smell of gas in the passenger compartment. One guy was told by the dealer to change his oil every 1,000 miles!!! There are all brand new cars. You can imagine the potential long-term damage done with diluted oil. This is from Day One. People are making payments on these things! There's no fix and there's no factory recall. It's why I bought a Mazda CX-5 rather than the CR-V. But even at that, Mazdas had their issues with Cylinder Deactivation (introduced in 2018.) I almost bought one with this model engine. The hydraulic valve clearance adjuster on the deactivated cylinders sometimes functioned incorrectly, causing the intake valve rocker arm to leave its usual position and "bump into other engine components." 262,000 recalled. A few engines were replaced. For the rest, they increased the oil pressure on the clearance adjuster via a software upgrade. All that for an extra 1 MPG! It makes no sense. So it's worth keeping these older models on the road. Their issues are known. And it's paid for.
No John, he ordered another complete head so no machine shop was needed. He will be back on in a few and tell you more about it. I'm just thankful its running. Now he can get back to my van with the truck behind him. Still waiting for parts on the van to come ;a complete solenoid.
LOL it was a used rebuilt head from Ebay. He took a chance and ordered it and we both hoped it would be ok because Ebay guaranteed it was good or money back. It looked great when he unwrapped it. Had all the parts with it like they showed it to have too. No leaks so guess its ok, or at least it is for now.
I didn't know it was rebuilt. I thought it was "As Is" (maybe guaranteed to not be cracked or warped) yanked off of a random vehicle in the yard.
