Thanks, Hal, for this exhaustive reply which gives me the idea I wanted to get about what kind of music and songs you play. Now I'll look for some videos of these songs just like the last one of your list: Am just hearing you play the piano... And I also like Broadway as you can see here on my T-Shirt. These photos are the most recent ones I have, four weeks old.
Thomas, you're lookin' great for whatever you age is! Now your Broadway T-Shirt...does the name represent all the classic Broadway Shows and Musicals of the past, such as South Pacific, Oklahoma, Showboat, Carousel, Sound of Music, State Fair, Flower Drum Song, etc, or is this something new? Hal
Thank you, Hal. I'm 65. I remember you wanting everyone here on SOC to post a recent photo. So here it is. I assume it represents all the things you mentioned. The name does not stand for anything else over here.
I like your song list. We played 90% of them. I sang lead, played bass guitar on those tunes that didn't need congas. On the conga/Latin tunes, my guitarist played bass.
Always had a fondness for musicians. Always wanted to play a stringed instrument but never owned one or had my hands on one to practice over five minutes a few times. My brother was a musician. My son a musician. His son, my grandson seems to play anything he's interested in, well. This talent skipped over me.
Early in high school, I was invited to join a band. I don't know if it was because I was the only guy in the school who looked the part or what, but they wanted me to learn to play the drums. They were kids I went to school with with, except for one who attended another school, but we weren't close friends. They weren't a whole lot better with their guitars than I was on the drums, and I didn't know the first thing about playing the drums. I didn't want to spend the time it would have taken to learn to play the drums so I declined, and they went on to actually learn to play their instruments. They didn't go on to become rock stars or anything but they toured regionally for a few years.
Unfortunately it is now - arthritis the problem Would have been a great asset but too much going on - hope all is well for you @Reva Mohr
I like a well played guitar so I tried to pick it up but have zero musical talent. I could not even get past tuning the damn thing well. When it came to playing I had two left feet. I tried multiple times but ended up selling or giving away my poor tortured instrument. This week I'm calling Salvation Army to donate another and final guitar.
So can I relate. I wanted to play the guitar but could not muster the talent or the hard work necessary. The best I could do was shut myself in a room and play the lowly harmonica, which many think is the worst noise maker ever invented.
Not when it's played by this guy: He figures prominently on lots of Quincy Jones' stuff, including The Theme From Sanford and Son (he played the bass harmonica.) Always brings tears to my eyes. He's so good...
