True and it also depends a lot on your location. I know when I lived in Hungary, everybody smoked and it was normal. When I moved to California before I quit smoking I felt like a leper.
Yep - that's how it is here and most places, as you know I'm stuck in the 60s when it was still acceptable
That can change quickly too. When I moved to Maine, more than 70% of Mainers smoked, but I think it's way less than that now, and you don't often see people smoking in public anymore.
A few years ago when I visited my son in Illinois they had smoking sections in restaurants. This is about 10 yrs ago. Of course when I smoked I was dying to sit there but had to think of my son and Dil. Also, St. Louis airport had a small room for smokers....it was so smoke filled, lol..but it was crowded.
Well, if a person doesn't want a certain person doing a job for them, they have that right to call the company and request a different person. Actually, today, complaining about anyone can get the complainer in trouble. So, what are people suppose to do, just accept whatever and not complain?
Some folks would even say that complaining about smoking is discrimination. The way I see it, if there are those that refuse to associate with smokers, that is there choice, just like those that don't smoke, but have friends that do and smoking doesn't bother them. Wife and I just don't like the smell of cigarette or cigar smoke and chose not to associate with anyone who smokes. It just a matter of who someone wants to associate with and not associate with.
I agree smokers need to be responsible and certainly no smoking in restaurants, but it is way out of hand now Ridiculous in fact
Thing is, I don't hear about any smokers complaining about all the restrictions and how so many look down on smoking today. Smokers just seem to say "oh well" about where they can/can't smoke and the cost of cigarettes.
Yes well, a 'lot' of pubs have had to shut down due to the ban A smoking room should have been an option Talking of 'drink' - that's far worse. Being intoxicated leads to vandalism, violence, death and abuse Not much done about that though
Many sports bars have an outside area where people can go to smoke. Some have outside heaters. Of course these places had the money to build that outside area. A small "mom and pop" type place wouldn't have that kind of money.
One of the reasons I quit was because of the hassles of smoking, especially in California...you can barely smoke outside. Health too was a reason but it was just becoming too difficult to find places to smoke outside of your house. At St Agnes hospital where I was a volunteer you had to leave the hospital grounds..even the parking lot I think....I didn't smoke by then thank goodness. Also, long flights were torture and it was expensive...the ones I smoked were $5 a pack. I smoked Virginia Slims menthol light 120's. just asking for them was a mouthful.
We now have some buildings in the apt. complex that are non-smoking with a sign that states that "Non-Smoking Building". Funny, the "Old Fashioned" way was to see almost everyone on tv smoking. Dean Martin always had a cigarette and drink in his hand during his shows. The old Gary Moore Show was a "smoked filled" studio! Today, the "New Fashioned" way is that all cigarettes get put out before entering any building. Talking about a "crack down" on smoking.
