My sister sent me this picture. A few years ago she dug up a couple of small off-shoot banana trees from my back yard. This week she has bananas!
I almost killed the cactus my grandmother gave me when I left home by planting it in mostly sand. I thought a cactus would like sand. Salvaged some little sprouts and starting all over. They are clones. The genes are the same.
We have a lot of banana trees, but no bananas this year. The freeze last February wiped out just about everything in our backyard. The banana trees came back but they aren't very tall yet; it has taken them a while to recover.
Maybe thats what happened to ours was the little freeze we had. I don't think it got below 23 and they have survived lower temps than that.
I'm new to gardening and I'm having so much fun. I'm an impatient person and when I plant some seeds I want to stand over the pots and holler "Grow, damn you, grow!". It don't work... I'm learning. My gladiolas are blossoming now and I'll post a couple of pics later.
LOL we learned that doesn't work too. Only we grow food mostly no flower that need tending much here. I use to buy perinials but not in last few years.
I've never seen this planet before however I did find a similar one online It's called Western pearly Everlasting In the Asteraceae family
It looks close but not quite. Mine has never shown any sign of a flower. It Iooks like they both have those thick, tough leaves some succulents have. Thanks so much, Tony. Do you have any links or search suggestions for me? This guy was about 2 inches tall when I first got him and I lost the tag with it's name. It grew fast and I put it in bigger pots as it got rootbound. Finally I put it outside and it's doing fine.
