$$$$$$$$ + Shipping I've always liked Renaissance art. When I lived outside of DC, I would often go to the museums and art galleries and pick up poster reproductions of the masters. I then went to a place called "Frames by You" that taught you how to make picture frames. I got to know the owner, and she showed me how she brushed Mod Podge sealer onto postcards to give them a textured look. It also cuts the glare, and you can impart brush strokes. So I would have the posters dry-mounted onto foam core and use different brushes to apply the Mod Podge. I had a couple of commercial picture frame stock shops that I would take the artwork to and match up an appropriate period frame. Nice quality frame stock is not cheap. I also have the 90° vise and other assorted equipment. I have a lot of paintings Ive done. I have a series of 4 by an American painter that I need to get done. I still have the supplies underfoot...
We have a place here called Hobby Lobby. They used to sell frames like that VERY reasonably when my daughter was into pen and ink drawing. She was quite good. I could not have even bought the raw materials for what they sold the frames for at their sale prices. But I have not been to the store for years to see how inflation has hit it.
Thanks Mary but we have a place here called, do it yourself. I can nail 4 pieces of wood together, probably match the artwork too.
I would like to learn how to properly arrange flowers. My husband likes to bring me those "grocery store" bouquets occasionally and I have often wished that I could arrange them properly. Off to search youtube...
Wouldn't that be whatever looks good to you? Jakes SIL does it for grave sites, but more people would be seeing those.
I've mentioned my friend who owns a greenhouse. There is an elderly woman who makes money on the side doing floral arrangements for graves. He does not sell cut flowers (not a florist.) Her stuff is done with artificial flowers and is displayed for off-the-shelf sale. But it's the same general idea. And they are very nice.
I absolutely love fresh flowers and my husband/kids know it, so over the years I have amassed a large collection of vases from floral deliveries. I have taken some to Goodwill and some to a local florist to re-use, but I still have a cabinet full to choose from. I do a fair job of rather amateurish arrangements but I think flower arranging would be a fun hobby to learn. Maybe I should buy some artificial flowers to practice with.
I took a class in floral arrangement long ago so I am sure there are some on line. I have red twig dogwood and old milk weed sprigs, cattails and other items around the farm for added visual interest, depending on season. Pine boughs for holiday... Maybe walk along the highways and byways?
