DH likes long sleeve T shirts style of top in winter ( I make them for him ) well confession time I haven’t made him any for a long time …..as I used good quality fabric and they last cause he only uses them when going out ..unless they have seen better days I started making them for him 6 months after we met in 1986 cause any he looked at in shops were very poor quality fabric and the arms were to short for him
This is the patten I use for his long sleeve t shirts I made them in a denim and and …plain black colours….the style is called long sleeve Golf shirts
I sewed matching ribbing on for the sleeve cuffs , when I made the denim colour one for him I was able to buy a ready made knitted collar and matching ribbing ..just plain hem on bottom . Yes the ribbing is stretch …you measure the part you want to add ribbing …and cut a piece of ribbing 2/3 the size of part you want to stretch the ribbing to Cut and sew to size before adding / sewing onto garment Can still buy black ribbing. I’m away from home till Wednesday I’ll take photos of his tops when I go home @Nancy Hart
@Nancy Hart Here are DH very much worn long sleeve tshirts I made for him The once black one would be close to 30 years old ..and he won’t bin it even tho it needs it … The denim blue one would be close to 20 years old
The biggest issue I have now days to make him any more ( and it’s been so for a long time ) is getting good quality fabric …….it’s like finding a hens teeth as Aussies would say Sewing seems to be a dying art sadly …..one can save heaps by mending / altering ( taking hems up) or in the case of any skirts I used for dancing I’d alter the skirts ( shorten ) at waistline . Oh I meant to say the ribbing on the sleeves of the top that was originally black …the ribbing was black as well but it’s faded over the years @Nancy Hart @John Brunner
@Kate Ellery I'm curious about the ready-made knit collars you mentioned. Can't seem to find any here. Then it dawned on me you might just mean the knit fabric cut in strips. Is that it? Collars were the thing that stopped me from sewing blouses and shirts. I could never get them to look right.
No you could buy the collars ready made , they are a knitted , I’ve seen some in op shops ( charity shops ) but not even certain if you can still buy them ….let alone collars to match the fabric especially denim colour @Nancy Hart thanks for questions Nancy I like to pass on any knowledge I have
