I'm don't mean to minimize that history with trite comments but there is some dark humor there ... Canuck Nazis ... what's next? Eskimo commies?
It is still the "flavor of the day" in the U.S., hence the pro-abortion stance of many. Margaret Sanger helped to found Planned Parenthood with the goal of ridding the world of the "dirt races", i.e., non-white, and today about 80% of the abortions performed are among minorities, mostly black Americans. I guess they are succeeding in their founding goals. Strange things were also done by the government concerning Native Americans, but, to my knowledge, those have mostly stopped, at least here in Alaska, since the Natives now control much of their own health care.
Has anyone besides myself listened to Kevin Annett on these issues? I confess to not reading the entire thread so he may have been mentioned as a source earlier. If so, my bad.
These are hard neighborhoods to speak an opinion in. I have a retarded nephew. I would not like to see him have a child, and so I would support forced sterilization for him. Saying this shouldn't make me feel like a Nazi, yet it does. I puzzled about this and I think I've found the answer. It's that I've always held close in my mind the idea of the slippery slope, where the smallest moral fracture can become a chasm. In my heart I would like to see each and every life live its fullest - human, animal, insect ... but that is not the world we live in and I have to adapt to the real world, however painful that is. To try to state it clearly, I think we need to shepherd the worst of our genetics elsewhere. I don't think it is necessarily the case that such a project has to lead to some kind of racist fascism.
I don't think anyone should be forced to have any kind of surgery --period! Before you know it, governments will decide to eliminate blond hair or dark skin or pug noses.... The Nazis were on this path and they began by sterilizing the mentally deficient then moved on to all sorts of other issues to eliminate from society. Please don't open that door. There are pills available to prevent pregnancy, and deficient people need supervision anyway....
I didn't know this although I basically studied Canada I'm a history buff, always liked studying it. ]. Interesting.
