The answers are not to be found in absolute fact, Chrissy, but rather in generalities. Neither Science, nor Medicine, have the answers, overall.
Cancer can't just be concidered a chemical disease. In my family for at least five generations the women have had cancer of the uterus. So many generations of grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, cousins, and daughters, we have all had the same cancer by the age of 26. We are all American Idians, except me. (I am Gernan and Indian.) My family was never well off enough to buy store bought processed food until recently, and we have been organic farmers throughout our history. So there must also be genetic forms of cancers. I never had a biological daighter, but my granddaughter had it too, but none if the men were ever affected.
Actually , grapes have other cancer-fighting properties besides the resveratrol , quite a few others, in fact. Many years ago, a cancer treatment was developed which used fasting, coupled with fresh Concord grapes or fresh pressed grape juice (not bottled), and it worked very well. Of course, back then, there was no where near the amount of cancer , and different types of cancer, that we have now. Over the last 50 years, we have seen cancer overtake most of the other diseases, and become an epidemic. Although, there is no way we can do everything to protect ourselves from cancer; I think that adding foods to our diet that are known anti-cancer foods is a good plan, as well as eliminating those foods that are known carcinogens. http://www.alternativehealth.co.nz/cancer/grapediet/grape.htm
The source I mentioned for Debbie, and anyone interested, is a book explaining and outlining research done scientifically, to ensure reasonable validity, rather than surmises arising from various "expert" opinions. It is not specifically about cancer. Rather, it explains How and why the widespread use of synthetic chemicals have forever altered the human system. Mostly, it focusses on those pollutants most widespread, worldwide, the commonest ones, which turn out to be "transformer oil", PCBs, and pesticides and herbicides. I obtained a copy by chance, in a book sale at the library perhaps 10 years ago. Reading it shocked me, but did not necessarily frighten me, as the result of this type of environmental pollution in my own case, will die with me, as I produced no offspring of my own. It should be frightening, though, to any folks who have children, for it is the future generations which will be most adversely affected, those effects being now only estimable, not concretely predictable regarding severity. The book is "Our Stolen Future", by Colborn, Dumanoski, and Myers, copyright 1996, Penguin Books, Inc., N.Y. I donated that copy to the United States Bureau of the Interior, State of Missouri Conservation Department, when I learned of a planned herbicidal treatment of an Electric Power Line right-of-way using tens of thousands of pounds of the chemical 2,4-D, one of the most potent among the Human Endocrine Disruptors. They failed to return it, no surprise, and I easily found a copy for sale on-line. The poisonous treatment commenced anyway, incidentally. No surprise there, either. Quick synopsis from memory: Human body detects levels of these types of "Estrogen-related" chemicals at concentrations as low as 1 part per trillion, taking them up, out of food primarily, and storing them in fatty tissues of the body, along with self-produced Estrogen, the "real" stuff. Nursing mothers pass the Disruptors on to their babies, who receive huge doses of it in proportion, and store it in their own fatty tissues. I highly recommend this book. FWIW, I was severely reprimanded and denounced, on another forum, for spreading fear unnecessarily. I go there no more. Frank
Yes, I do know about the phytochemicals and all that. I looked that up for someone on one of my groups on my FaceBook account. I think it ws in refereence to GMO's and the natural side of that....I think it was that. There is another thing that I should mention too and that is Allergies to some vegetables, like the Nightshade family of vegetables. http://www.livestrong.com/article/367949-list-of-nightshade-vegetables-fruits/ Yet another one is also a allergy to Dairy....not the lactose intolerant thing, but a real allergy to one of the main chemicals that are naturally in it. http://www.all-creatures.org/health/howmilkanddairy.html
1931 Dr Otto Warburg received a Nobel Prize in medicine for his research in cancer. Cancer cells can only survive in an acid low oxygen environment. He said he could take any healthy cell and make it cancerous and he could take a cancer cell and turn it into a healthy cell. The heart does not get cancer because good oxygenated blood flow. If your body is in an alkaline state and you have good oxygen supply to all your body your chances of getting cancer is next to 0. Oxygen and alkalinity work together. When the body is acid it can’t hold oxygen. This is the premise behind using baking soda to make the body alkaline. Sugar makes the body acid and cooking oils [trans fats] smother cells so they can not get oxygen. When food is cooked it destroys the enzymes and makes the red blood cells stick together. The red blood cells are the cells that carry oxygen through the body. Free radical damage is very important although it is not a direct cause for cancer it does open the opportunity for cancer to start. There has been much research on antioxidants which repair damage done by free radicals and preventing the opportunity for cancer. There is lots of research on selenium, vitamin A, E, C, and many other good antioxidants. Glutathione is your bodies own antioxidant but as we age we produce less selenium will reactivate glutathione to work again. If you increase your antioxidants or [ORAC] score you lower your chances of cancer.
For the unwary, be cautious before thinking about taking a Selenium supplement. Very little of it is needed by the body, and it is toxic in quantity. Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) per day for adults is about 50 micrograms: 50 millionths of a gram, or 0.05 milligrams, a very, very tiny amount.
Yes it can be toxic as anything can be can be but on this one they are over reacting toxicity is very rare. Over half the soils in the US are selenium deficient and the recommended level are for people who do not need it. Selenium deficiencies symptom age spots or liver spots, Anemia [red blood cell fragility], cardiomyopathy, cataracts, cancer risk, cystic fibrosis, fatigue, growth retardation, heart palpitations, high infant mortality, HIV [AIDS], impaired immunity, infertility, Keshan disease [myocardial fibrosis], liver cirrhosis, low birth weight, multiple sclerosis muscular dystrophy, Myalgia, pancreatitis, pancreatic atrophy and fibrosis, Parkinson’s disease [associated lead poisoning], scoliosis, sterility in males, sudden infant death syndrome, sickle cell anemia. It is also antagonistic to mercury meaning if will remove mercury from your system. I personally take 400 mcg per day Further information. http://www.seleniumresearch.com/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23530936 https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Selenium-HealthProfessional/
