The Sons of the Pioneers are the Pharoahs of Country! "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water" are written in Stone, from their great composer Bob Nolan. Hal
We'll take Garth Brooks, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Diamond Rio, Shania Twain, Terry Clark, Travis Tritt, Chris LeDoux, Kentucky Headhunters, Clint Black, Alan Jackson and others like these.
I'll vote for Alan Jackson, but if you don't include Marty Robbins in your list, your bypassing a legendary Country-Western vocalist AND composer! Marty is the only Jew in America's C&W heritage, AND he was a NASCAR Driver! Hal
Funny, years upon years ago, I use to go to a country-western nightclub where the band played the old songs. Most of the patrons of this place were fairly old, as in "much older", than me. After I stopped going there, I found a much more "hip" country-western nightclub that played the Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Judds music. Actually had more fun at this club.
Versions of The Wayward Wind .were recorded in 1956 by Gogi Grant and Tex Ritter, of which Grant's was the biggest seller in the United States and Ritter's in the United Kingdom. I prefer this version. Maybe the theme just fits better with a male singer.
One of my most-loved singers has just passed away, Bonnie Guitar. Some of you might remember her for her first big hit , “Dark Moon”, followed by “Mr. Fire Eyes”. My very favorite of hers was a song called , “Only the Moon Man Knows”, and I used to sing it when my kids were little and it was a favorite song of Robin’s . I can’t find it on YouTube, at least not performed by Bonnie Guitar; but here is another one that I always loved, too.
