When I was an insurance agent, I traveled almost every week, putting about 1,000 miles per week on my Mazda pickup. We had several states that we worked in, and a regular route to be covered each six months; so I practically lived in motels. Unless we had some special promotion going on, we had to pay for our own motel rooms, and usually looked for cheaper places to stay.
There was another lady who worked in the same areas as I did, so she and I could share the room most weeks, and that helped a lot with expenses.
Usually, the maids would come in and make up the beds each day; but since we had rented it for the week, they didn't change the sheets. They did take the towels and replace those each day, and made sure we had plenty of soap and toilet paper, and we were fine with that.

When I worked for Election Systems and software I traveled a lot also with my ex but we got a limit of $120 for a room and $35 a day for food...plus $250 a day for working, even if we were just driving from one county to another...what a gig!!
We usually stayed at Sheraton, holiday inns, comfort inns or the Hampton inn.
And although we were living together at home, we'd usually get 2 rooms at the motels.

They also paid our airfare everywhere and the days we flew we got paid $100, just for flying to our destination, my ex would always upgrade us to business class when he could, then they paid for a rental car, we only got one of those...cause I sure didn't want to drive.

My ex was my boss so he made even more money but I always get my $35 per diem for food and he paid for my meals, so I made $285 a day as a contract worker...didn't even pay taxes til tax time.

I'm such a user, lol. Well, with just men. :) I'm just kidding, he insisted.

I still can't get over how great that job was...awesome pay and fun and travel.
