One of my favorite dog breeds is the Afghan Hound. We had several of them when the kids were growing up, and they are just a different kind of dog than most other dogs, in their temperament. This video is an afghan hound in an obedience class, and he is a regular performer, and seems to be having a lot of fun in his act, and tail wagging most of the time. The herding dogs that usually are in obedience videos all seems so serious and committed to what they are doing, and the Afghan is just laid back and having a lot of fun.
This was our first Afghan Hound. He was from the Longlesson’s Kennel in Seattle, which had show quality afghans back in the 1960’s when we got him. Someone who worked for them had traumatized Stanley (Longlesson’s Constantine) at the kennel, and they were unable to show him because of his extreme fear of people, and they sold him to me for $100 because they wanted him to go to a good home and be someone’s pet. . When we got him, he had no idea of being an actual dog, because his whole life had been living in a kennel, and if i even picked up the broom to sweep the floor, Stanley went into hiding in the back bedroom. It took him quite a while, and he never got over it completely, but he eventually learned how to enjoy life, and loved following along when we went horseback riding, or just outside in the yard. He was a wonderful dog, and the kids and I loved him a lot.
