The White house is claiming they need Congress to approve more funding in order for them to send relief to North Carolina and (soon) Florida. KJP, the press secretary says that asking about that is spreading dangerous information. Peter Doocy of Fox News asked her why they could send emergency funds to Israel and Lebanon without Congressional approval but they can't send emergency funds to victims in the U.S. Southeast. Dangerous "misinformation" indeed!
Thanks for asking Beth and hope your sister's grandson house is repaired quickly. We are safe and di fine in comparison to many. We are still clearing trees and brush from Helene, Milton didn't affect us much. Helene gave us 140 mph winds, as crow flys we are less than 60 miles from where it came in. But it was moving fast, we lost about 20 large trees and tree limbs. One fell on storage building.4 large to medium on fence. Jake has been busy with chain saw. It is weird being able to see the sky now through the forest in 4 places. The hard part was no power for 6 days, water was scarce, first time in a long time I washed my hair, bathed in one gallon of cold water. I used very little shampoo.
Beth your the only ' alert' that came up, site said I had 34 alerts, hope others don't think I'm ignoring them. I do understand the site is going thru problems now.
I am a prepper but I never thought to prep for floods because we are on a hillside. When our sump pump died during our rains this year, it could have been very bad. Floods can destroy everything, including water! I had seen several 'news items' where the government was stopping aid and confiscating relief items. It was theorized that there was money involved in that they wanted THEIR suppliers to be the ones FEMA dealt with. FEMA was in the bigger towns but did not venture out to the people who needed the most help. Parked their trucks and sat there. That item where electric chain saws were provided to people who had no electicity got to me. Yes, they are cheaper, but worthless in this situation. Fortunately mountain people are sort of used to dealing with stuff on their own. And they help each other when they can. Several tales of bravery. Now that NC is showing that they can and will vote, Harris may do more than photo op and offering a $750 loan to those affected.
I'm so glad you guys are OK, Marie. Ugh, being without power is the biggest drag. My sister was in the dark for a week and a half. She said a young man knocked on her door to tell her the power should be back on and she talked with him a bit. Turned out he was part of a crew from Houston who had traveled there to help restore power!
Mary we try to keep some extras on hand too. We did run out of water since we changed well tank generator didn't have enough voltage. Amazing how fast you can run out of water.
Thank you and I know your sister was really missing the water, only 6 days got to us. Another lesson to learn, just when you think your ok life says, no your not, lol.
She had filled up both bathtubs and a lot of pots with water, and had a few cases of drinking water so she did OK. She has a generator and could keep her fridge and freezers running.
Same with my sis; she wanted to save all the food! We've had 2 storms this year where our power was out; with hurricane Beryl it was 9 days. We have a genny and city water so it wasn't too awful. I'm just glad that you and Jake didn't have a lot of damage and didn't get hurt.
