I usually do all the cooking, cleaning, and laundry, and then some. I have a large laundry/utility off of my kitchen. We can also come into the utility room from the garage. In my utility room I have the washer and dryer, some cabinets, an up-right freezer, coat rack, and a little bench to sit on to remove dirty boots and shoes. We also use to have a ¼ bathroom in the utility, but we seldom used the toilet in there, only the sink. So some years ago, my husband removed the door from the utility bathroom, took out the toilet, added a new vanity base, sink, faucets, and built storage cabinets. He also removed the old kitchen door between the kitchen and utility and put up a heavier sound proof door. We like it.:)

And speaking of laundry, today I washed all the blankets and quilts. It takes me a half day almost to get king size blankets dry; drying one at a time. It is like wrestling a bear every 5 minutes, when I have to pull the blanket out of the dryer to rearrange it after it balls up in a big wad; thumping inside the dryer.

The housekeeper won’t work 7 days a week and the cooks, well, even though the couple occupy the servants quarters in the back of the main house, they only work 5 days a week also so that leaves us a couple of days per week when we have to fend for ourselves and do the menial tasks.

Seriously, albeit Yvonne does do the bed changing but I do the lawn mowing, maintenance and the changing of burnt out light bulbs.
The rest we do as it is needed and whomever is standing there looking at whatever there is to do at the time.

The division of labor in our house has largely been that my wife is responsible for the upstairs, which includes our living room, kitchen, walk-in closet, bedroom, and a bathroom, while I take care of the downstairs, which has my office, a spare bedroom that I sometimes use as an office, the laundry room (which includes the cat litter boxes), another bathroom, a utility room, and the library, which is mostly used for storage and a hang-out for Ella now. In practice, my wife cheats and hires someone to clean upstairs once a week, plus I do the dishes and laundry.

I have written in my Diary thread that we are having a July Spring Cleaning at our house. My husband rarely helps with housework unless I specifically ask him to. I've always been good housekeeper but as I'm getting older I've definitely slowed down. I've given things "a lick and a promise" till I'm all out of promises and getting short on licks, so it was time to do some heavy lifting.

Because of my back issue,he vaccums, helps change the sheets, carries dirty laundry down a few stairs to washer. He hauls in all grocery..we got him larger cart.
He will help with any thing when asked. He feeds and waters his dog, and messes if any.
I do all the other cleanings.. not as often now,but I can't stand nasty rooms, so we stay clean.

Yes, I do. I also don't have a gardener. I wash my car, I trim brush & mow the 1/2 acre back yard, too. But I used to do all those things on the same day.
Not any more. I'm 71 & I worry about the day when I can't do those things.
