Yes, I call him Colt 45 semi-auto and he has a loud bark and serious bite! Just joking! My neighbor that trains service guard dogs have enough dogs for the entire neighborhood.

No guard dog, but have got a S & W 9mm, with a clip loaded all of the time. Unlike Jacksonville, very little crime happens here, so don't have the clip in the gun and the gun/clip are locked up in a gun case...…………...but, key is very handy.

When we do end up getting another dog, it will be a Shih Tzu pup. We don't want another big dog.

Some time unknown to you have some one yell get your weapon and time it. Known in advance it is a drill. May surprise you. Mine is available in mere seconds as well as a very high lumen light, when my dad and I were attacked if I had not been prepared, for sure he would have been killed and possible myself injured more, for each their own just be safe. I cant stress this enough. Many yrs in LE changed my total thought process. I have even had a friend working 2nd shift come to my door quietly after work to check on my dogs response they caught it. I tried to get him to come in with door left unlocked and enter but he refused as to dog known temperament.

Please stay safe. I told that lady she was getting to darn close to Mica! Finally she got the message!

Can you access your weapon in 10-15 sec or less hopefully much less? Fully loaded with a full magazine? Time it. Retry and retry again with someone screaming at you really screaming, maybe add a light in your eyes.

Darn sure no offense made here to anyone at all just wish all to be safely prepared for the nightmare if ever happened. I am also in very low crime area also but long possible response time here possible.
If you should try this drill let me know the outcome do it several times and days and log each time.
Also spare magazine handy if you fumble the other one under stress? Hopefully you would not have to get out of bed at night to access?
This is one of our drills we teach at our church classes for refuse to be a victim, a real eye opener to some especially with using disappearing targets timed to seconds, then you know you have an intruder in your home, also cell programmed to speed dial 911?

Then repeat with a magazine in weapon with easy access and a practice dry fire at center of opened door, repeat and log compare times. Time from your front or rear door to bedroom avg walk and use for par time until your planned defense starts. I have had my neighbor stay over and we have done this many times although she cant walk and confined to a wheelchair. She sure can still scream well.

Not true.. they do have sweat glands, called apocrine glands, associated with every hair follicle on the body.. although unable to sweat like humans they sweat through any area not covered by fur, like paw pads, and nose...

Out of that photo of the 3 , we've now lost 2 of those dogs . The staffy and the Dobie, both PTS, in the last few months.:(. only the Malinois left, and she's young only 4 years old and she would take your heart out on order, she's a seriously trained guard dog!..

OK, Holly...you win about the Sweat Glands, but an open mouth does indicate perspiration as well.

I would suggest panting is more likely to be thirst or dehydration...

Dogs "sweat" through their paws and nose. The open mouth tongue hanging out panting is to move air over their naturally moist tongue and mouth. It doesn't necessary indicate thirst or dehydration, it is their main cooling process. Sort of like the old swamp coolers.
