As I've stated several times, I'm a card carrying atheist. I have, however read quite a bit, including the Bible and various interpretations thereof. I've also mentioned Paul Tillich, my favorite theologian, who fled the Nazis in the 1930s. His book 'The Eternal Now' is available online, and is a really good read. Accordingly, (my interpretation) arguing about the existence, or non-existence is a total waste of time, and being a real Christian has nothing to do with it. During my teaching freshman composition, I used chapter 13 of this book for something to argue and write papers about.
