Do You Rent? Have You Had Increases?

    Earlier this year my daughter moved out of a one bedroom apartment, laundry in a separate building that was raising rent to about $1400 a month. Now she's in 2 bedroom 2 bath triplex with her own laundry appliances in the kitchen and her own garage for $1250. The difference is that the former place is in a Seattle suburb and the latter is about 20 minutes outside of Spokane. I don't know what other rents are going for in my area, but I do hear they have gone up a lot since 2019.

    If I was a young man with two kids I wouldn’t rent an apartment….period. Heck, as a senior with a wife I wouldn’t rent an apartment. If I was on my own I wouldn’t rent an apartment. I detest apartments.

    On our street alone, studio apartments rent from $425-$1,200 and apartments go from (1br) $550-?).
    The houses I rent range from $550-$650 which is the exception because they’re old houses and in a neighborhood that isn’t at the top of the preference list.
    Normally, houses in Huntsville run from $1,000-$3000 a month but because of the number of civilians working in the tech industry on and off post and the number of medical professionals in the area, that’s not to outlandish.

    Wow, $40K! That is amazing Kenny! Here a vermin-infested, run-down shack needing serious repair brings $150K and a dated but liveable place in a 3 bedroom commands $225 and a decent place needing a good cleaning, painting, and minor repairs bring $250K, and a nice modest move-in ready 3 bedroom brings $300K. Prices have tripled in the last 5 years due to big technology moving in with their massive computers housed along the river so they can use massive amounts of water to cool them. They created a lot of jobs at $15 an hour, but with rent starting at $1000 for a small one-bedroom and house owners renting out spare bedrooms at $500, fifteen bucks an hour is a joke and one has to be short a few brain cells to think this massive growth and out of control inflation is a good thing. If it was warmer in Millinocket, I would be moving.

    It is about the same here Lonny. Even though houses are outrageous, rent is worse. The best thing young people can do is get out of here and hopefully find a place where their dollar goes further. Young blue collar working couples here struggle to make ends meet. I think the entire west has this same housing crisis and why we now see lower middle income hard-working families living in old RVs.

    This Was not unexpected and is the second 2% increase since moving in three years ago.

    2% does not sound usury at all.

    I wonder what all that COVID testing cost them. I wonder if it was a profit maker (after any subsidies.)
