I have a big, thick dictionary but i don't use it anymore.

I check online for the meanings of words I don't know. I also check for the spelling of words online, as I spell badly.

Now, Ken. I don't want to upset you but the thesauruses went extinct millions of years ago.

I recall being in elementary school and going into the store asking for a "thesa_saurus."

I have two, and I use them at least once a week. Online, I am presented with maybe four or five synonyms. The thesaurus can do much better than that, and lead me to related words, as well.

When I heard the correct way the word was pronounced, I was embarrassed to recall my mispronunciation. They never said anything.

Roget's is one. The other is called The Synonym Finder, but it serves the same purpose.

Thought I’d found a dinosaur skeleton but it turned out to be a fossil arm.

Let me look that up in my dictionary, to keep this thread from veering off topic.

Ken is going to limit my forum access to the Miscellaneous Banter thread before long.

While we're on the subject of words, I have two vocabularies. One is my reading vocabulary, including all the words I know the meaning of. The other is my writing vocabulary - the words I actually use to communicate. My reading vocabulary is much larger then my writing vocabulary.. Is this the case with anyone else?

I could add a speaking vocabulary to the above, the words I use to talk, which would be much smaller than my writing vocabulary, and so much, much less than my reading vocabulary..

And lately, with only Barney to speak with, my talking vocabulary has been reduced to grunts and the f word.

I did something similar. Open the dictionary to a random page and scan down until I found a word I'd never heard of and try to learn it.
