Where we lived , it was a ( is ) a very dry arid area in the middle of nowhere 500 miles from the closest city being ….Adelaide It was a mining town both underground and in the surface …..all mines had names like the Zinc / South mine / north Mine and others I cant remember the names just now …. Where the south mine was ( still is …but closed ) you had to travel over a fairly large hill to get to the likes of the airport …..and you never ever went out the south unless it was for business ( they were very few ) we called it … OUT THE SOUTH … ..still do if it’s spoken about …. .back in the very early days no one could date anyone from ….out the south …oh no …no one was game to venture out there …. The zinc mine entrance was out the south ..but the entrance was on lower part the hill …so no one had to go over the hill …and venture into the south area Out the northern part of town is known by locals as DOWN THE NORTH BH had more pubs than any other towns or cities back in those days. …..but I believe many stand empty now days with mine closures and dwindling population
