I say, "Lord have mercy!" Sometimes followed by "Chile" if I'm talking to Bubba. Now I even have him saying it. :D

When my mother was annoyed by us kids, she'd tell us we'd better "walk a chalk line." HAHA I don't know where she got 'em but her delivery was flawless.

I say it like, "Lord have! mercy, chile!" I probably learned it from Mama and she learned it from Grandma, etc. :D

I remember in 4th grade, we got real stone steps for the front and back door. I was so proud. I just KNEW all the kids on the bus were jealous.

I try to use current language as I know it. I may use some andnot realize it. I try to speak and write in my own voice.

Yeah..."Hubba Hubba" was what chicks used to say when describing a good-looking guy.

"Hey, Gate...you're Reet, so gimme some skin!" (1940's "jive" slang...ala Cab Calloway)

My 76-year-old wife got hooked on "Goes" as a hip substitute for "Says".

Example: "I was gonna buy a car, and the owner goes "I'm asking $2000", but I go "That's a little high, ain't it?"

Lady Faye...you are absolutely correct! KRKD did not have a 50KW signal, but fed their antenna 2500 W by day and 500 W by night!

Their 1150 KHz signal generated a wavelength of 260.87 meters, or 856 feet, with the quarter-wave antenna being 214 feet tall.
This was determined by dividing the propagation velocity of radio waves (300,000,000 meters per second) by
1,150,000 (the station's frequency in Hz), converting the result to feet, and dividing by 4 for the antenna height in feet.

(I'm also dedicating this dissertation to Frank S. and Thomas S.)

Hal this off topic radio talk was moved to the thread on old time radio. Hope this post is moved there for some more on their antenna that is said to have been two 220' foot towers that had a horizontal radiating wire between them. The towers were 220' to make the horizontal wire 1/4 wave above the building. If just a vertical it would have been inefficient because of the problem making a ground plane with at least 1/4 wave radials. I find this fascinating and haven't been able to find a photo of that horizontal radiating wire antenna at KRKD, just this one at KYPA they call a hammock. I cannot tell from the photo how it is fed. @Hal Pollner Old time AM radio chat in OLD TIME AM RADIO MEMORIES thread. Don't want this thread drifting too far off frequency.
