Yes, I think meatless Fridays, Latin, head covering all went out the window around the same time, during the Ecumenical Councils, I think.
Lots of great memories here today, it was a good time, very different from even today's catholic youth. The nuns were tough but that was part of all of it. That's another change I didn't like when the nuns starting dressing in regular clothes except for the veil. There were quite a few different habits as I recall. None like the flying nun though.
My gosh! .. something I totally forgot about until you posted that Ruby! .. thanks for jogging my brain. Every Easter we had one of these at the Easter dinner table. And if I remember correctly, it was more of a bread than a cake under all that coconut. ... but it always looked something like the one pictured.
Funny .... I'm planning to attend a church service at a neighborhood church on Easter, with my one daughter and two granddaughters along. First thing I said was, do I need a hat? ... My daughter " Mom this isn't 1950!" I bet there will be Easter Bonnets though, no?
Lol, maybe on some of the older ladies. I also remember that cake. Edit: oops, I always forget....we are the older ladies now.
I couldn't resist posting the most beautiful eggs of all..Faberge! I have a coffee table book filled with pictures of these treasures...totally awesome
Oh @Karen McKenzie , these are breathtaking! The old Russian Tsars and the Romanov family collected Faberge eggs. What is it with Russians and eggs?
Yes...Faberge made these custom eggs for the Russian Royal family as I recall. Here is a little video showing some..just amazing.
Okay..have to post a real favorite..Hot Cross Buns! Must have these at Easter..I get from a local bakery.
Oh yes, the buns! I haven't had them in many years. Our Italian friends always made pizzagaina, Italian Easter pie
