@Joe Riley Post # 14, what a beautiful picture. I draw trees a lot and really appreciate the shape of them. This one is so unique. Almost like a bonsai.
Originally, when we moved here, 42 years ago, there were three pines together. I called them the "Twisted Sisters". Then there were two.....more recently....there was one. Here is a picture of the "Sun in the Pine".

I want one.[/QUOTE] My guess is they were planted too close together and each formed unevenly, as they grew together. This last one is in its final years. Like the Bonsai, they were shaped, as they grew....not intentional, I'm sure. Could be Scotch Pine. Here are the two "Sisters". The one on the left, died, and was cut down.
Mother Nature creates Bonsai. I think the humans got the idea to copy Mother Nature. Some of our trees on the mountain slopes are stunted by shallow soil and shaped by the wind. Some are actually growing out of rocks. Our trees on the sand dunes at the beaches are shaped by the constant wind blowing inland.
