Habitat for humanity? The Government does not have a clue about how to do anything effectively. I used to say they should put my next door neighbor in charge of expenses of the gov't. The budget would be balanced and there would be money left over. The gov't does not care. It throws money at everything and does not pay attention whether it is effective or not. If we cut all the waste and graft and did away with departments like the Dept of Education, we would have plenty of money. But they wanted to destroy money so they can set up digital currency. The wealthy can have even more control of the poor.
recent events seem to dictate that bad decisions are... a rich man's game. i often see information about research performed from peer reviewed sources, health related websites, and social media, much of which are contradictory. the problem i find is all seem to be based on "anthropocentric" perspectives placing humanity above all. destroying this or that... we are becoming what we fear most. guess, it's only natural.
I'd have to disagree with that. All you have to do is look at Medicare versus Medicare Advantage (Part C). The latter is run by insurance companies. Wasting $9 billion per year.
For what "effect" ? To gain power, control, profits beyond imagination, they do daily. To protect the mis-information, the deception of "health" system, the reasons each time we go to war, they use the media extensively, and there are not nearly enough people to do anything at all about it to fix it, only to make known to a few what they can do for trillions of dollars less and with better results. A few know, most never do. That's not actually a disagreement I think. Both those programs are extremely wasteful, legally protected, megalopolies or watever. In reality it seems that All the gov programs are probably 90% wasteful or fraud and deception. The way to fix health care is to opt out and find the ways to actually achieve health, which is not provided in the gov system(s).
That the government is incompetent and wasteful has been a cliche since I was a child. It was always a joke that got a big laugh and a bunch of nods. No one really had a clue whether it was true or not. Compared to what? A bunch of private entities managing things with the CEOs taking their extra cut? I don't think so. Plan C Medicare is the first attempt inching toward privatizing Medicare. Keep cutting taxes for the wealthy and call it the Tax Cut and Jobs Bill (2019) to keep the voters confused. Do away with regulations on corporations. Starve the gov't of resources, and make it come true. That's the Rich Man's Game. Very short-sighted.
And how does that make housing affordable ? The less land that is available for housing, the greater the cost of housing.
It doesn't. I was responding to your statement that they do next to nothing about the problem by pointing out that they do quite a lot - towards making the problem worse.
Oh, i didn't understand what you said. Continuing with my 1st statement. Regarding vacant city land, it could be an easy thing to pass ordinances that require land be used for housing. Oh, I didn't understand what you said. Continuing my 1st statement about massive new building programs. Eminent domain is often used by the gov't to force the sale of needed land, provided said land is for public use. Once the vacant land is bought up by the gov't, that land could be sold to programs such as Habitat for Humanity. They, in turn, build single family homes and sell them to needful families at remarkably low prices AND at ultra low interest rates. There are two conditions the new buyers must meet. 1.) They must put in a certain amount of labor on their new homes 2.) They must actually live in those new homes for a minimum of 10 years before they could sell.

Plan C was a Republican sponsored program to begin privatizing Medicare. A Republican Congress passed the rules that govern it. The same party that passed the $2 trillion 2019 tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. (A Rich Man's Game)
Jesse Ventura wrote a couple of books with actual facts to show how horrible both parties were/are. I think one is '62 things your government does not want you to see'. He said it is NOT conspiracy theory--they are actual facts written by our legislators over the years and in the public domain. Our government is not for the citizens. Ventura proposed suggestions on how to change things but I don't think they could work. Not enough of us united. That is actually why they keep us fearful and in the dark.
