Here in Hawaii it's hot and humid during the summer. When we have storm systems that block our northerly winds we have soooo humid and hot weather. But you got to exercise right? So I just exercise in front of my fan blowing the strongest and watch television which makes the time seem to go by faster.
Well mallwalking is an option if you are close to one. I am lucky in that I am in a lake community so I can swim when I want some exercise, however, when it is extremely hot like it will be this weekend, it is not pleasant. The water is hot like a hot tub...or like swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. It is not my favorite. However, I do it when I get tired of sitting in the AC and need some activity.
My DIL is also very much into Pilates, maybe I'll go to a class with her and see how I like it or even if it's an option with my back issues. I've been thinking of that or yoga but don't want to join until I give it an actual try. I'm sure she can have me as a guest while I'm there and pay whatever.
Ha ha, Krissttina...it's even hotter here, just not humid. My daughter goes to Maui every July and runs 3 miles on the beach very early in the morning. I can't even walk 3 miles in the sand anymore. Actually, if I didn't have back issues my favorite way to exercise would be hikes. A few years ago I did that a few times with my sister in Colorado and that was fun and hard at the same time. It's not boring because of the scenery and you use a lot of muscle groups especially if it's up and down....you can also fall easily. Swimming like Yvonne does is probably the best way to go, especially with back problems but I'm not a water lover and hate the whole wet bathing suit changing and all that involves.
Any exercise can be bad if you do not take in the minerals your sweating out of course when it is hot you might sweat even more. You can see these athletes just dropping in the middle of a game from a myocardium heart attack and these people are normally said to be in good shape/health why myocardium heart attack is caused by a mineral deficiency. They sweated out that entire mineral out of their body. They also can start to have joint problem because they sweat out the minerals they need to be health. These sports drinks have little if any minerals the body needs. One doctor said exercise without supplements is suicide.
From April through September, we walk "laps" around our mall, which is square and involves 0.3 mile per lap. We shoot for 10 laps. During those months it is too hot even in early morning to walk where we walk October through March, The Laughlin Riverwalk. The Riverwalk runs from the Riverside Hotel on the north end down to the Laughlin River Lodge on the south end, nice, wide concrete walk right along the river's edge. It is 1.5 miles end to end, so, 3.0 miles start to finish. We have talked to many folks visiting the area, and it's amazing how many from other countries know about the Riverwalk! My only concern about walking as the sole exercise form, is that my heart rate elevates only a little, from 55 or so to 75 at most. Frank
If I were really wealthy, I'd have a swimming pool. We have a municipal pool here but it's only open a couple of months a year, and it's filled with kids. I have sometimes gone to one of the lakes that are cleared well enough for swimming but our summers are short and the lakes are deep, so the water is very cold. Consequently, I haven't been swimming in a long time.
A small backyard swimming pool like we have might work for your situation, too, @Ken Anderson . I just love swimming, and even just being in water to exercise. Down here, we have all that humidity to contend with outside, which is not so good; but you have fresh pure air up there, and the pool would work fine. We found a 16' one for about half-price on Walmart online, and they shipped it free right to our house, so we didn't even have to load it and bring it home. It will last us a long time, and was a good investment. It does take maintainence, and we clean the leaves out every day, and Bobby has a little pool vacuum that he uses for cleaning small debris off the bottom when necessary. The fitness center is great because, it can be used all year around, plus it is air-conditioned and dehumidified air; so it is much easier to breathe there than it is swimming outside in the humidity. There are any number of different exercises that you can do in water, besides just swimming, and I have focused on exercises to help my bad knees and weak leg muscles; but I also use the water weights for building up strength in my arms. I have been trying hard to talk @Ina I. Wonder into trying out pool exercises; but apparently the fitness center where she belonged to before did not have good humidity control like ours does, and she worries about not being able to breathe if she goes to the fitness center again.
We have a fitness center with a pool here too, but I've never been there, and I'm not sure whether it's available for swimming or simply supervised exercise stuff.
