Unlike the great minds many of you have listed as your choices, I would go with a little more 'colorful' and lightweight :D guest list for my party invites.
Might need a really big table though, as it could get a little awkward..:)
    1. Jon Stewart ... for my political fix
    2. Elvis Presley ...just 'cuz
    3. My father .. who I never met
    4. His mother ... who I understand was quite an independent cuss for her time
    5. Princess Di .. to get her deep thoughts about her marriage, etc.
    6. Nostradamus ... deep, but probably I wouldn't understand anything he said!

Bonnie, why didn't I think of John Stewart? Also Princess Di? I would love to meet them both. I suggest we have a second dinner party later on.

@Bonnie Thomas, you can't get much lighter than the Kardashians who are coming to my dinner party.

I may need to put two chairs together for Kim's butt. :)

Well having played this game several times over the years and not recalling a single name I put on past lists I guess I will start from scratch, and I imagine the people I would choose has changed anyway as I have aged.

I see Mari put Jesus on her list, who I would like to meet and discuss the way his teachings have been corrupted by many, and find out the truth from the source.
On the other hand he would probably not fit in with the somewhat decadent fantasy party I had envisaged
I would however invite him for breakfast the morning after to sort us out.

My criteria for a fantasy dinner party would be sparkling conversation and lots of humour.

    My guests would be:

Dr Bronowski who mingled science, history and humour beautifully and always had a twinkle in his eye.

Bill Nighy who apart from being an excellent actor is a lovely man.

Bill Murray for the same reasons as above

Irene Jacob again for her acting skills and beguiling personality.

Carl Jung I like a lot of his ideas on life.

Roger Ebert I almost always agreed with his movie reviews, and he was a very interesting man.

I will cheat a bit and allow two gate crashers to come, they would my my grandfather on my father's side who died in the first world war, I know little about his short life and my fathers roots, secondly my father who died at 54 when I was at an age when I had no interest in knowing him, now I feel I would be able to learn and appreciate who he really was.

..I think I'm the only one on the planet who likes the kardashians...Oh I know they made their money being reality ''stars''...through a whole gamut of reasons, from sex tapes, to plastic surgery, and sex change...butttt.....( Unintended pun Khloe and Kim)... as people they come across as a united supportive family, and I think in this day and age that has to be applauded...

if I was having a lightweight fun dinner party..I'd definitely invite one of them, ...

I like Bill Murray too, better than Robin Williams actually. Robin could be irritating at times.

@Holly Saunders , I've watched their shows and yes they seem to be supportive of one another but I sometimes wonder how much of that is for the camera.

I wonder what their real life is like if they even have one, well maybe I'll find out at my dinner party. :)

I agree....Robin's Bi-polar disorder probably caused most of his unpredictable actions...

Another reason Holly for the dislike ... they have the cloud of their father's fame of saving OJ Simpson from the murders..
not a popular thing in the states.

I understand Bonnie, absolutely,, Simpson was a horrible manipulative criminal, and anyone seen to be supporting him would have been tarred with the same brush understandably...( Kirs jenner said that it caused a lot of problems in their marriage during the trial because she felt sure OJ was guilty of murdering her best friend...and of course her own husband was defending him)... but of course Robert Kardashian was only a relatively minor 'member ' of OJ simspons' defence team of 9 which was initially lead by Robert Shapiro ... and then by Johnnie Cochran. TBH I doubt if RK would have ever been included in the defence team if he hadn't been Simpsons' real life best buddy!!...

I had forgotten about the OJ trail, Bonnie. I was so immersed in that!

One good thing about making up the rules is that you can amend them as you go along. Having spotted that a few people have put entertainers in their lists, I can allow a couple of extras to provide music and comedy, although they'll have to make their own eating arrangements.

Hmm, difficult. For music, I was tempted to go for Robert Johnson, one because he was brilliant, but also so I could ask if he really sold his soul to the devil. I will, however, pick someone perhaps less obvious. Dominic Behan (younger brother of Brendan) was a superb poet, singer, musician and raconteur. I heard a tale of him performing for 24 hours in a London pub. He never sang the same song or told the same story twice.

My comic was a choice between Bill Hicks, Peter Ustinov and Groucho Marx. I'm going for Groucho. Pure genius.
