@Chrissy Cross If I recall correctly, a D-J once remarked that Lou Christie's "Lightning Strikes" was recorded in a famed studio in an out-of-the-way town in NM. Pretty unimportant info, huh! Frank
Yesterday when I was posting some of these songs and listening to a whole bunch I didn't post I kind of got lost back in the 60's and it was nice. So many songs took me back to different memories. It might have not been a good time politically (Vietnam, etc) but it was a good tiime to be in high school.
@Chrissy Cross Know what you mean about drifting off and thinking about the 60's. For those who didn't know, Lorne made 6 albums and had a few hits. 'Ringo' was probably his biggest hit. 'Welcome to the Ponderosa' was a big hit at our house, and my Mom played the album a lot. This was her favorite.
Actually, I like the redone version of this song by Billy Idol. Talking about "jammin'", wow! But, then again, I like how Van Halen redone You Really Got Me by the Kinks. Another "jammin'" song.
The summer before I was to start my senior year in high school, we moved to California because my Dad got stationed to a different Ship. I was pretty upset about leaving Hawaii and not being able to graduated with my friends. Low and behold, my Dad pulled some strings and after 6 months, we were back in Hawaii and I got to graduate from my old school! Without my albums and the 'Pitiful,Portable,Pinic' record player in my room, I never would have survived my time in Cali...
I just spent the last hour listening to songs from the 60's..all genres and tears were flowing....I don't know why I get like this, lol.
The waves were too small and the ocean was COLD! Where we lived, there were a lot of lowered Chevys and people wearing flannel shirts over a white tee shirt. I wore 'Jams' and 'Hang Ten' shirts, so didn't quite fit in... Now when the wife, I and the boys moved from England to Moreno Valley,CA in the 90's, we really took to the sun and warmer temps!
True about the waves and the ocean compared to Hawaii @Tim Burr. . My oldest grandson likes to surf and skim board and he's on the central coast which is colder than the southern coast....but he still does it. He wears a wet suit when surfing and he's just a beginner really so the smaller waves are perfect.
"Ringo", by Lorne Greene, made #1 in November, 1964. It remained in #1 a week, and in the charts for 10 weeks (top 40). Frank
