G--did you read how to determine if you qualify on their website? Good luck with this; I'm so sorry you are hitting a rough patch. Hugs to you.

I have never been a coke addict, drank it as a kid and have a mouthful of dental work to prove it. $2.75 is cheap for that poison. That's how I see it.

The diet stuff is different poison and I cut myself off at $2.75. I think it is $4.50 now.

I like to have an occasional Coke, but I never could stand "diet" anything. I'm more apt to be having a beer, so I hope I can afford to keep 'em on hand. :D

Water has been my major choice for years, was doing the "plastic" bottles, had home delivery for a while, then would pick up gallons of Crystal Geyser and now I'm actually drinking city chemical laden water and how I fought this and especially when the city voted to dump the fluoride waste into our waters and charge the cities for their waste...thanks to Alcoa many years. ago.

@Beth Gallagher and others on this thread. I mentioned applying for SNAP, and why. But I wanted to clarify we are not destitute- yet. I had hoped that a bit up help now would pay off later on. However I have yet to finish applying, as it is long and boring, and I hate being ruled even more by government.
So many questions, and if not accepted, I would be beyond livid.
I will continue to cut my grocery down some. ;)

Here is a website that shows what monthly income each size family is allowed to have and still qualify for SNAP benefits. It also has another link that is specifically for low-income seniors, and once accepted, is good for 3 years.

And aren't you glad you did not hand over all the extra personal info? I was 'compelled' to give out pages of info on the 'Community Survey' instead of the general census under Obama. I dragged my feet for a long time, but I will say, some of the info was less than accurate. The purpose was to find out how people were living nearish to big cities to level us and make it more equal and fair.

G--I hope I didn't upset you. I didn't believe you were destitute at all... but you had mentioned some unexpected expenses and we all understand how that feels. I believe people should use any benefits that are available to them if it makes life easier, and heaven knows we can all use a hand up sometimes.

Even aldis prices are rising fast. I had purslane and ground flax seed in cottage cheese mixed with distilled water for breakfast. I will probably start getting younger not buying foods in the store cuz I can't afford them and they are not as good for us. Last night I had rabbit with wild rice (I didn't grow that But am looking to) and cabbage. For lunch, I am having egg salad with eggs fresh off the tree!
I even found ways of incorporating weeds into my chicken feed to expand what I have for winter.

The media continues to make it all sound worse, hearing it now on my radio. Since I've been eating less, my last weigh in at doc's office I was down some 40 lbs from t he last time I weighed......I'm doing a couple other things too which could affect my weight but I'm eating much less in the last year or so. Media loves to keep us in fear, fear sells.
