Poodle has learned something new. When we got him, he didn’t even understand what a name was, and we called him Poodle while trying to decide on a name. Before that happened, he learned that “Poodle” meant him, so his name just remained as Poodle, and sometimes Puddle, which he is okay with, too. Before we leave the house to go to the store or the fitness center and swim, we always let the dogs out, and then bring them inside and put them in their dog crates with a doggie treat , while we are gone. Today, Rusty came right in, and Tootsie come in, but there was no sign of Poodle anywhere ! I called and called, and Bobby went out in the back yard and looked all over, and he was just not anywhere to be found. Thinking that he might have somehow got out of the fence, Bobby went out front to look by the road, and I was still out back. We have a little outdoor lounge that we use for suntanning by the pool, and when I looked under there; there was Poodle , peeking out at me ! He does not like to go in his crate, even when he has a treat, and he had figured out that it was time we were going to go to the fitness center, and he was NOT coming in. Normally, poodle does not even like being outside, and he just goes and does his doggy business and comes to the door to be let back inside again, so this was a whole new behavior from him. This is the kind of thing that my Chipper used to do, and sometimes I think that Poodle is conversing with the Ghost of Chipper, and learning things from him. We could not even say the b-a-t-h word around Chipper, or he would go and hide underneath the middle of the bed. Chipper understood just about everything that I said, and most of what I was thinking. Needless to say, next time, he will go out earlier, and come back inside, and not get the last minute trip outside before we go swimming tomorrow.
I had two dogs who died 4 years ago. I lived without a dog for over a year. I went to the Animal Welfare who had plenty of dogs. I saw Rockie, he was dirty, skinny and matted. The attendant said he was not the dog for me. My heart said he was. I waited a few days and I took Rockie home on Valentine day. I love my dog.
Rockie is a beautiful little dog, @Ezella Wheeler , and I can see just from the picture how much you love him, and that he loves you just as much. He looks like a happy little fellow. I think that dogs that we rescue from a dog pound, or other unhappy life, know how wonderful it is, and they bond with us easier and faster than dogs that didn’t know that kind of loneliness. Welcome to the forum, and I am looking forward to seeing more pictures of Rockie. Do you know what breed he is ? He looks like he could be part Poodle ?
