@John Brunner IMO, the very concept of HOAs, at least as they are implemented around here, is seriously warped against the better long-term interests of the homeowner. Similar to the scam of making added revenue by a mortgage-holder by wrapping a variety of added charges into a loan: "Environmental Fee" $5,000, Water hook-up fee, $4,000, and so on, all paid for on credit.
