Now, what's the difference between Hard Rock, Acid Rock and Heavy Metal? In other words, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship, Deep Purple, Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Cinderella, Korn, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer.

That would take a little more research than one might be willing to do ;-)

    Hard Rock ... Steppenwolf, etc.
Acid Rock ... San Francisco rock
Heavy Metal ... Deep Purple, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin
    Other ... LOL

Well, in doing my research, this is what I found out:
Hard Rock...Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen, Metallica, etc.
Acid Rock....Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Alice Cooper, etc.
    Heavy Metal.........Anthrax, Cinderella

Actually, some of those bands, but not the Heavy Metals ones, fit into both Hard Rock and Acid Rock.

Just to let you know, even though my Avatar is us with black cowboy hats on, we have the Greatest Hits CD's of AC/DC, Van Halen, Janis, Deep Purple and others.

As for myself, since I love a good Ludwig drum set player, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly, is one of my favorite "drumming" songs. As is any band that has a nice keyboard, like Deep Purple (Hush) and Steppenwolf.

I know a lot about rock music and now, thanks to my wife, I know a lot about Motown music.

Yep, I'd say so too. Black Oak Arkansas are categorized as Southern rock, at least apparently according to the band, who are from Black Oak, Arkansas.

I recall Roger Daltrey's interview saying that The Who were a matter of survival. I never understood that until now ... as that was their way of making a living, which they'd sunk everything in to.
