I have cut my own hair since I was 16 or so. There were times when I would get lazy and pay someone to do it but I do not think I have spent over $50 for hair cuts inn my lifetime thus far. Now, when I worked at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans, a hair stylist was part of my contract as well as a valet service so as long as it was free, heck yeah, why not.
I have been cutting my own hair about once per week for many years. I had been doing once a week mustache trimming and it looked like it never grew so I thought why not the hair? I like my hair short which helps. I use the longest attachment for the top, a shorter one for the lower part of the back, and there are two tapered ones for the sides. Shaving the back of the neck is tough but doable.
Just got a message from my barber today. He's opening next week under enhanced regulations. He doesn't expect to be doing a whole lot of people because he has to us new set of gloves, new cape for customer, new smock for him for every customer and he will probable run out of stuff each day. Almost forgot he has to wear a mask and a face shield.
I just discovered a new way to cut my hair in under 5 minutes. This may be just the thing for me, since mine is out of control. https://nypost.com/2020/04/10/sheep-farmer-goes-viral-after-shearing-himself-amid-covid-19/
I found out on Tuesday that the young (Ozzy Osborne looking...LOL) barber I've used since last August, was back in his shop. He put a piece of paper on his door reading, "No Mask, No Entry". Yesterday, Wednesday, I went to his shop, but there was six Senior guys waiting for a haircut, plus one getting a haircut. They all had a mask on, but the young barber did not. I waited for awhile, but after hearing to much swearing (for my liking) and that the young barber wasn't wearing a mask, decided to leave. Went home and immediately called and made an appointment at Fantastic Sam's down the street. All of the haircutters had masks on and a Senior lady cut my hair. It was a nice cut, but apparently she has forgotten how to do a "tapper cut" in the back. All I know is that I finally got my hair cut and was darn happy about it. The Men's Hair Trimmer, with attachments, from Amazon, is on its way to me.
Well, sometimes I try to write a poem to express my views. Sometimes they are silly, and sometimes off-beat, but it often helps me to put things in perspective. Here goes one to try to cope with all that's going on now. (I hope its not too bad, and you'll go "ugh") After scores of planning, I finally made it to my golden years. Idyllically lounging at home, and intermingling with peers. Life was great, until bombarded by a monstrous intrusion, upon my happiness, an unforeseen, inadvertent confusion. It seems some ignoramus ate a bat in a city called Wahun, Why couldn’t someone have thrown the bum a dog bone? My sentence to “shelter in place” is now mine to serve. We all must comply and give our effort to “flatten the curve”. No travel, no diversion, no toilet paper, only 6 feet apart This undeserved travail, this discord, tears at my heart. Especially those who’re suffering from the dreaded virus. Without resource, singing the sad tune, “No one will hire us.” Hospitals are in need, ventilators and masks in short supply. Their calls for help from the leaders, often get no reply. Watching the evening news only adds more malaise I want to escape into the dark, but I must "shelter in place". Lord, save us from this most horrible, detestable situation. We’ll give you praise and honor with sincere, joyful elation.
Well, I felt very, very comfortable getting a haircut while wearing a mask and really liked it that the hair stylist was wearing a mask also. She sure acted nicer than my "Ozzie Osborne" barber did! Funny that he would require anyone who comes into his shop for a haircut to wear a mask, but he won't.
I have the good fortune to have very thinning hair. So I get my haircut really short - almost shaved - about once a month. That made it easy to have my wife cut it. I bought a Conair hair clipper for around $50. When the virus shutdown started I saw that it would be advantages to buy a clipper. I got online right away and ordered the only clipper that I could find in stock - or so they said. I ordered a Remington from a place called factoryoutlet. They said 3-5 days. Two weeks later I asked and they said 7-10 days. Two weeks later I chatted online with one of their reps and she said 7-10 days. Two weeks later I called to cancel (6 weeks if you haven't been counting) and they said hold on for 2 more weeks. I said no, cancelled, and found the Conair on Amazon. They said 2-3 weeks. After I ordered it they sent email saying it would be 1-2 weeks. A day later I got an email saying it shipped and would arrive in one week. Next day I got it.
I was looking at one on Amazon and read the reviews. Amazon was $40 higher than the manufacturer so I have it on order from them.
As the mask will not stop the virus but it will cut down on your breathing and increase low oxygen levels also help reinfect your self with the bacteria/virus you just ex-hailed. What do you have to lose? only your health .
I never leave my house/yard. No mask for me. ETA--well, maybe one of these to make the neighbors wonder what I'm up to.
