I ordered new batteries for my hearing aids from the VA and received them today. 120 batteries and a note that I was coming up on 5 years with this set of Hearing aids and probably time to get retested for new ones. I like the ones I have and they perform as intended, but I'm thinking about getting a set of 'Behind the Ear' ones. I have CIC ones now, ( completely in canal ) and sometimes they can irritate the openings. Plus, you have to have a mold made of each ear and they fit just that ear. They are the STARKEY 3 SERIES I110, and hope to get the same company because I can control them with my iphone and have a Surflink remote device that can control them also. When it comes down to it, I'll go with what they suggest. This will be my 3rd set, first was the Siemens Artis CIC aids, then the Starkey's. One thing the VA does not go cheap on is Hearing Aids. Always top of the line companies like GN ReSound, Oticon, Phonak, Siemens (Signia), Starkey, and Widex.
Looks like we will be getting a set of Advanced Quality Hearing Aids for me. Each is $259 and are rechargeable. Great reviews for them. I definitely need hearing aids, not that my hearing is completely gone, but I do really need them.
As one that has tried and worn different brands of hearing aids over the years I encourage you to see a licensed AUDIOLOGIST forget the cheap crap. The Audiologist is a Pro in diagnosing your kind of hearing loss. As in my case, VOLUME is not always the problem. Frequencies can be, and they are harder to fix. I know that for a fact. Good luck!!
Hearing Aid Ear Molds... Any decent Hearing Aids will have ear molds fitted to your particular ears. Essential to hear properly.
Mine are Oticon at the moment. I have had Siemens (cheap), Phonak, and Widex. My brother has Starkey, and I think his are better than the ones I have had. Except for the Siemens, all mine have been procured through an audiologist and set to my frequency profile. I think I have an unusual hearing issue, and, although the hearing aids help a lot, I haven't had any that I thought were even close to perfect. The Widex was the clearest, and only the Oticon have come from the VA. The remainder have been covered by my insurance.
Got my new hearing aids on Friday. They fit nicely, but will have to get use to wearing and adjusting them. The electronic part fits behind my ear, with a clear "ear hook" tube (to keep it in place) and a tube, with a removable dome, that fits inside my ear. So far, totally satisfied with them. Hummmm, 20/20 vision in both eyes now and much better hearing, feeling good about both.
I looked and didn't see a reply to this, so...….Lon, I've already been to an Audiologist for a hearing test and have the report from the test: My left ear was, SRT (Speech), 40 which is mild and my WRS (Word Recognition) is 80 which is severe needing hearing aid. My right ear was, SRT (Speech) 25 which is slight loss and my WRS (Word Recognition) 65 which is hearing loss and hearing aid essential.
