We are planning on putting our Christmas tree up this week-end. I remember seeing the ads for the upside-down Christmas tree, that took up less floor space....seemed a little weird to me.

Today is December 4th, and on this date, in 1961, The Museum of Modern Art, hangs Henri Matisse's 1953 painting "LeBateau" upside down, for 47 days! HA!

Here is one of my "newer" Christmas favorites!
    fir.jpg

O fir tree dark, O fir tree dear
I wander through the silent night
And feel thy fragrance in the air
And see thy branches robed in white

O fir tree dark, O fir tree dear
How blessed is our Christmas tide
So strong the charm that holds me here
In truth, I scarce can leave thy side

The twinkling lights that deck thy boughs
Enchant me with their shining spell
And in a language all their own
    The lovely Christmas story tells

O fir tree dark, O fir tree dear
I feel the wings of angels near

My daughter's Christmas tree, she put it up when I was there after Thanksgiving. She has such beautiful ornaments on it but its hard to see with the tree lit up. Will take more pics when I go back in 2 weeks.

I agree Terry. I no longer have the patience require to enjoy the slower pace of nineteenth century authors, such as Dickens, Brontes etc.

The whole back of the house is patio doors and windows, too much to clean, she has to pay to have it done.

December is the best month for us, aside from the holidays and the gifts and the abundance of food. The weather is so good during December with the cold mornings and cold evenings but with the sunshiny daytime. So apt for everything - parties and gatherings, vacation trips, excursions. There is no rain and naturally no typhoon and flood.

But it seems that I am talking of the December in the olden days. Starting in 1994, we have been experiencing December rains. And in fact, in the last few years, there was the threat of typhoons before and even after Christmas. Truly, the climate is changing and the good old December is changing with it... not so good anymore.

We need the December rains in California...our rainy season is usually the winter months but lately it hasn't been the case.

December in Fresno is pretty nice much nicer than the summer months.

Today is December 5th! On this day, in 1967,the Beatles' clothing store, "Apple", opens at 94 Baker Street, London.

You are looking at the Apple shop on Baker Street in London, 1967. Steve Jobs would have been twelve years old at the time and still tinkering with electronics in his family garage in San Francisco. Apple Inc would not yet even be founded for nearly another decade.

On December 5th, 1893, the first Electric Car (built in Toronto) could go 15 miles between charges. .....A short distance, compared to today's drivers!;)
