Silvia, I have a friend who lives in central California. She knits baby blankets and caps for the local hospitals' premature baby units. Not sure who you'd contact in your area but it seems like a worthy endeavor.
That reminds me of another possible project. Some people knit/crochet winter hats, slippers, or mittens for the people at the homeless shelters. They also use the plastic bags (plarn) and crochet that into sleeping mats. Before Ina died, she was making little lap blankets for the veterans’ s home in Houston, and she said that many of the veterans had no one to visit them or bring them anything, and they were so delighted with the home made lap robes that she made on her loom.
Beth, I crochet lap blankets for the Veterans; the other ladies in the Com. Center knit / crochet hats / socks /. scarves for needy people.........We even make cage cushions for the Animal shelters. My heart to your friend.
