Revere's name was used because it was easy to rhyme and he was a fairly famous guy of the time in Boston. I have been trying to study the Revolutionary Peeriod over the past several years, and have found some misconceptions and things I didn't know. The Federalist Papers and collection known as the Anti-Federalist Papers are particularly enlightening as discussing the structure of the Constitution. I think Alexander Hamilton would die again if he were to witness how he was depicted in Hamilton, the musical. The founders were all male and all white; that is part of why it is no longer covered well (although Abigail Adams and Dolly Madison made significant contributions in the early years).
Hey Ken... I admire the way revered institutions can be spiked by someone like yourself, who can see through the fluff! Washington was not the first President of the colonial United States. He was the 6th I think, but his forerunners were all Nominated, not Elected. Hal
Of the United States of America, he was. Fourteen people served as president of the Continental Congress: Peyton Randolph (2 terms), Henry Middleton, John Hancock (2 terms), Henry Laurens, John Jay, Samuel Huntington, Thomas McKean, John Hanson, Elias Boudinot, Thomas Mifflin, Richard Henry Lee, Nathaniel Gorham, Arthur St. Clair, and Cyrus Griffin.
Hello Gang! Today is the REAL birthday of George Washington, not President's Day. Also, Washington was not our first President...he was our first ELECTED President. There were 7 Presidents before him, but they were all APPOINTED, not elected. That's it, Hal
Of course I can name them,@Shirley! John Hanson Elias Baudinot Thomas Mifflin Richard Henry Lee John Hancock Nathaniel Gorham Arthur St. Clair Hal
