Hot, dry and crispy. Trees look like they are dying. I hope no one lights a match. I have a started burn pile. Think I will wait for some time.

It is supposed to be raining now according to the forecast, but it is sunny and 48 F. The rain has paused and no frost yet, but if it stays clear....

After our brief fling with lower temps, we are back in the high 90's this week. Is "Indian Summer" going to trigger any snowflakes or what do we call it now?

A nice day today for the apple pressing. In the 50s and sunny. The forecast said it was supposed to rain but nary a drop fell.

It is starting to worry me here in that it is getting to be like a tinder box. Tomorrow I will get all my hoses out. We live in a woods full of dry trees. All it takes is one stupid person burning something. The farm should be easier to defend The renter just baled all the hay.

I feel for you @Mary Stetler. We are very wet now, but in the spring when it is very dry here, wildfire is my biggest fear. We nearly lost everything in a fire years ago, but the firefighters managed to stop the flames before they got our place.

This was about 10 miles from my son's place in 2011.

I was terrified, Kate. From the Austin Statesman newspaper...

"A small fire sparked around the Circle D-KC Estates north of Bastrop, when winds shook a few loblolly pines into a string of electrical lines. The fire quickly turned into a monster that burned 34,000 acres in Bastrop County. It torched 1,660 homes, killed two people and injured 12 others. The Bastrop County Complex Fire is deemed the most destructive wildfire in Texas history."

We was doing a sit taking care of 2 little dogs on Mount Tambourine ( QLD) https://visittamborinemountain.com.au/explore-national-park-walks-gardens-nurseries-botanic-gardens/
When a very severe bushfire broke out , at one stage the fires were 6 km away from where we were staying ( it was sept 2019 )
The owner of the home contacted us ( they were overseas ) they said you may have to evacuate …she said .just take the dogs and my hard drive …..and go …..but go where ….we didn’t really know the area ..it was 3/4 way up a mountain ( link up,here)

and it was a new housing estate with ONE Entrance / exit out of area ….

They ended us returning….. 2 days early as the fires were getting out of hand ….and the day we left I could not hardly breathe …. ( we was there for a month )

it was horrible …at one stage we were turned back as trees were burning and falling across the roads we was traveling on ….

We traveled for 14 ….hours only stopping for fuel .,it was terrifying …. @Beth Gallagher

I’m not sure how many were killed or how many homes were destroyed ….the fires spread to NSW / Victoria and SA
    ( thousands of Km’s )
We live in a very high bushfire area due to cereal crops where fires are often started by lightening / thunderstorms in summer

Where we was staying and the smoke where the fires first started

28 F./ -2.2 C. this morning, so much of the garden is now kaput. Parsnips, cabbage and cauliflower still okay, but the entire next week will below freezing at night and in the high 40s F. during the day. A sunny day though.
