Sunny and 36°F. All week we should have highs in the mid 40's and lows in the low 30's. I really hate the lower humidity in cold weather; the static electricity makes me crazy. I walk across the carpet and send sparks when I touch metal.
That is usually the case around here, but this year humidity is way high and so no shock treatments. That might explain my slipping sanity. Very overcast and dark this morning, 36 with chill factor at 32. Feels like snow but none is forecast.
We are still pretty cold here in Alabama, and with heavy winds the last week or so, making it even colder. Supposed to have several inches of snow by Friday, unless they change their predictions. Bobby and I and the critters are all staying bundled up and trying to keep warm. I have the little heater on right underneath my desk, and Poodle likes that because it is near the floor and he can sit by it and keep warm, too. Even Poodle is wearing his flannel pajamas at night.
I tried to get pics of the ice-covered trees, but you can only see the ice when the sun is behind them...meaning it's in your face. I used my ancient digital camera to get high-quality pics, but when I tried to get better shots, the bright sun washed out the screen. It didn't occur to me to go back inside and get my phone, whose bright screen would have remained visible. Anyway, these do not capture the beauty... Now we have a cold streak upon us (some nights single digits.) It's not been this cold since December 2022. Thank goodness for solar energy (sun-->trees-->wood stove)
I hate getting shocked! We have a humidifier that we run in the winter months and I still get shocked all the time! It hurts too! I have a little spray bottle that I add a little of unscented fabric softener and water into. I spray the cloth furniture and the carpeted areas with that. I also spray the carpeted floor mats in my car. It helps for awhile.
At least you have some sunshine! Ice on th I wish we had some of that sunshine shining on our iced trees! We still have clouds! Boo! Hiss!
I worked in an office that was horrible for that problem. I used to carry a resistor with me. You can touch it to doorknobs before you grab them, and it bleeds the electricity from you but you don't get shocked. On the other hand, it is fun to hold your finger out for the cat to sniff.
That was how we were yesterday. When I opened the door this morning and saw the ice with the sun shining, I threw on some boots and grabbed my camera. Lesson for the day: Lounging pajamas are not well-insulated.
Sometimes I just put on a leather glove or grab a hand towel when I touch metal in the house. It looks silly but....
We distill our well water for drinking and it takes out a lot of stuff. I worried about hubby's bp with softener salt added.
+34 F. this morning and the schools are closed due to the snow-packed back roads now being covered with ice. The main highways are reportedly just fine. Predictions are for a couple days of this warm weather, then back to cold and snow on Thursday.
I think you may have recommended a distiller at some point. Could you tell me which model you use? The salt does not seem to affect me, and water tests say that the minerals are being remediated, but with my urinary stones acting up again I get concerned when I see the amount of minerals that are left in the roasting pan of water I keep on top of my wood stove. It's a lots of stuff at the end of the heating season, and I'm drinking it.
It looks more like a Christmas postcard than snow-covered trees do. I just got back in from clearing off the car and the truck (again) and getting the ice & snow off of the roofs of my firewood racks.
