It was supposed to hit single-digits last night, but my personal weather station said it only got down to 17°F. I'm not complaining, but that's missing the target by quite a lot.
We woke up to no water, pipes froze. But by 8am we had water again, I noticed the sky at 7 was red, white and blue, very pretty sunrise. Reminded me of old sailors saying, " Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning, red sky at night, sailors delight." "
All the regulars here know that we live in N. Alabama. Ya know, below the Mason-Dixon line where the winters are cold for a short time then it’s on to things warming up and we get happy again. But sadly, all this global warming has us on track for getting 4-6 inches of snow this coming Friday with a probable freeze directly after that. Everything will come to a halt: No school will be open, most businesses will shutter for a few days and there will be at least a thousand car wrecks by people who seriously think that the more inclement the weather is, the faster they should drive. With the exception of the northerners here who came here with their engineering degrees, no one here knows anything about studded tires or snow chains. Heck, I don’t think our transportation department even has any major snow removal equipment so the EMT’s will be sliding all over the road trying to get to those who already slid. The only upside I can see is that believe it or not, there are some folks who live here who have never experienced real snow before. e.g. The kind of snow that using the leaf blowers won’t do any good and ya have to get out the bull nosed shovel to clear things out because no one here owns a snow shovel. Kids will be making snow men and the street junkies will probably mistake the white stuff for something that they normally snort up their nose and will get brain freeze. Yup….is agonna be some fun times for the next few days. Maybe turn the pool into an ice skating rink….if I knew how to ice skate. Maybe build a snow fort or an igloo………Not !
We are actually getting some "possibility of snow" in the next several days. We have a similar situation to Bobby and Yvonne; southerners are not equipped to deal. The good news is, the day after it snows it will be 80 degrees again and everything will be a slushy mess.
Still cold, cloudy, and Icy out. 21 degrees. My driveway and sidewalk is a sheet of ice. I will need some ice skates to skate to the mailbox to get the mail, if it gets delivered. All the mail delivery services (Postal, Fedex, UPS), and all garbage pick up services have not worked since last Saturday, but I see some of them are out and about today. Wish I could say the same about the sunshine.
