It is a crazy year here. After 3 months of record breaking rains, it is getting dry now and looking more like the desert it is. The thing is now we have really tall dry grass and the fire danger is getting high. After a couple of 90s days, we are back in the 80s. Lots of 2nd cutting hay down so I expect it will rain before it dries enough to bale. The 1st cutting took 3 showers of rain before they got it dry and baled. It really lowered the price of alfalfa hay.

It is cooler today, 70 at 0930 hours, and time for my walk.

Still having a heatwave in Houston; supposed to be 103 today. At least we got a rain shower early this morning; about 1/4" which is better than nothing.

The placement of the hyphen tells the story.

When it is out in the sun at 100 degrees and a silly Colorado girl slides down it in shorty shorts at her Texas great aunties ............ The little girl crys while old auntie sprays her bottom and legs with cold water before applying aloe vera. It is found in the medical dictionary as assblister syndrome.

Apparently our rainy season has begun a couple weeks earlier than usual. It is below freezing already on the North Slope. We have gotten rain for the past two days and our total burn ban has been lifted, but it is now predicted to rain for the foreseeable future. We went to Seward today with our elder daughter and her family and our youngest son and his family to visit the SeaLife Center, which is a research and rescue facility open to the public for support. The grandkids love the place. Drizzle for much of the day and temps topping out at 70 F.

Rained all night. We were predicted to get .1.6 inches overnight. It was down to 47 F. this morning. Sadly, our warm weather in the 70s seems to be coming to a close. The North Slope was down in the low 30s F. The widespread rain has put out many of the fires burning around, so that is a good thing.

I checked the pool thermometer earlier and the water is 90 degrees. o_O Of course that's the top 6" or so of water; it gets cooler as you go deeper. Still not exactly a refreshing swim though the air temp is near 100. I have had enough summer, thanks.

I think it is finally a Wisconsin summer. Spring till now has been so weird. Roller coaster temps. Lots of rain. No rain....It finally rained well two days ago. We had gotten a good 1st cut hay but I worried we would not have a second because it was so dry. I come in sweating but not from the heat--it's the humidity.;) But now, after the good rain, it will be in the 80's for the week. That is a bit too warm for me but mornings and evenings will be lovely for working. My first planting of beans did not germinate! bad seed! I put in a second before the rain and it looks great. Might start a third early.
