Yes, those are actual houses after the blizzard on Lake Erie. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/29/us/homes-ice-blizzard-lake-erie-climate/index.html Apparently the wind whips lake water onto the houses nearest the waterfront and it freezes.
Oh wow ! I had a look at the link you posted (thanks) - those photo's are shocking !! So sorry too when I read that over 3 dozen people died - I bet many more are in hospital suffering from hypothermia too. My thoughts and condolences to the people there. I gather from the story/video that it is just the 'back' of the houses that are covered, so thankfully, people won't be 'trapped inside'. Are there farm animals like cows and sheep in fields nearby ? - if so, I wonder how many of them have perished in this and any 'stray' dogs/cats too. I am just completely blown away by this
From one commentator, most of those who died in the storm were traveling and thought they didn't need a coat or boots since they were going from a heated garage to another heated space. Of course, I believe one homeless guy died as well. (only from one source)
Yesterday was around 20 F., but the temp dropped overnight down to 0 F. , but warming and wet snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Weary of winter already and it really has just started.
We were supposed to have a winter storm today, but nothing materialized. It got up to freezing for the first time in a while but thankfully no new snow or ice. Temp is now dropping again.
High of 78°F today, overcast and the possibility of "severe weather." From the local forecast... "While we aren't expecting flooding in Houston, there is the possibility of severe weather this afternoon. Tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail are possible. The key is an inversion above the atmosphere in Houston. If the inversion breaks, we'll get severe weather. If it doesn't break, we'll get rain and maybe a lightning strike or two."
Temps about the same here and I came back from shopping and had to turn on both front and bedroom air conditioners. We aren't showing bad weather until tomorrow but it is cloudy with some sun breaking thru.
I love the country side of England and would not mind all the rain. Myself I always wanted to visit the North West Pacific and possibly live there a while because that weather is close to being the same as England. My deceased Brother was a hippy when he was young, he lived with several other hippies in an old abandoned school bus near the NW pacific coast. My Mother always coddled him and worried about him so after she had not heard from him for a long time she called the local sheriff in the area he lived and ask him to check on him and call home. He knew who he was and drove out and gave him the message ;0) The Brother and those others living in the bus all worked at a local cannery and on the side they were poaching clams ha ha
In the 20s F. and calm. Days are getting longer by a few minutes every day now. The snow is settling and subliming, so our 5 feet of snow is down to about 3 feet now.
After a relatively balmy interlude above 0 F., it is back to -10 F. this morning. I guess winter temps are returning. No more snow yet, though.
