The heck with spring!!!! We just had 12 inches of snow and today we are expecting 24mph winds. I have a friend who always worries about drought so prays for snow every winter. I think I will go and slap her.

North Alabama will hang around 80 today but is only supposed to be around 50ish tomorrow.
Contrary to whatever the National Weather Service predicts, this time of the year we never really know until the day arrives and even then, it could be 70 at one hour and 30 two hours later.

This morning at 6AM, it is -12 with a "feels like" -23. Sure pity these young folks that have to drive to work. But, then again, I remember 19 years ago, when we lived in Colorado before, I had to do it.

But, the few inches of snow we got yesterday afternoon, is all ice now. I went to our mailbox, was very, very careful in walking, and the drive is like an ice rink!

I gave you a like here Cody because this is a good post that stayed with the topic. You show compassion for young folks rather than complaining about them. I enjoyed knowing the temp in your area.

Appears that winter has moved on in Houston. It's in the 80s and overcast today; all the trees and stuff are budding out. (Sorry Mary. :D)

Well, Faye, it seems like I'm almost always complaining about young city folks. But, this time I didn't, but the complaining is still there. Wife and I just get along much, much better with rodeo young folks rather than city kids. Kids in 4-H, FFA and so on, to us, are so, so different than city kids.

The forecast dropped from 6 to 8 inches of new snow to 4 to 6 inches. We got 1/2 inch over night and it is not currently snowing with a temp of 23 F. I saw L.A. was under a blizzard warning. It was down to -50 F. on the North Slope near the Canada border yesterday. Things are still chilly up there. I wonder if any more balloons will be found.

    Gonna hit 80°F.
Tomorrow night it's gonna get down to 30°F.

These swings wouldn't bother me if I didn't mind them so much.

One of the guys I watch says the weird weather is due to the solar cycle. A weak solar max leads to a breakdown of the normal flow of the Jetstream, leading to unusual extremes in weather and temperatures

Yup. The sun drives the climate.

Folks bite their nails awaiting another Maunder Minimum (1645-1715.) From Wiki and Spaceweather:

During a 28-year period (1672–1699) within the Minimum, observations revealed fewer than 50 sunspots. That's 99.5% Spotless Days over that 28 year period.

    Spotless Days

Apparently we should be approaching the solar maximum, but there are spots that look more like approaching solar minimum. Global warming won't be an issue if we go into a grand solar minimum like the Maunder. We'll be thankful for every molecule of CO2 we can generate. Some folks even think we are on the brink of an ice age. Only time will tell for sure. Snow started here again, but not a lot has fallen.
