Sunny 15c for the first time this week , we’ve just been for a walk with the dog around her neighbourhood.
North Adelaide right on the edge of city , look at those blue skies after a week of unusual ( for us) week of rain / Thunder storms
After a cold start to June temps in low 60s with a cold wind (May being crap as well) on Saturday we hit 80f. Its a draining heat as well.
Highs today supposed to be in the 50s F. with a chance of rain. Family barbecue at youngest son's house regardless.
High in the low 50s. We were on the patio last night with a fire and realized it was 41 F. It was cloudy but we were afraid it might freeze if the clouds moved out, so we covered the last remaining uncovered bed of any consequence--the large pumpkins. It didn't drop much lower though so no frost, but the snow is moving back down the mountains again. It doesn't bode well for the summer garden.
Beautiful Country. I feel really bad I did not take a leave and visit before I left RVN. When I did leave in 70 I had accumulated more unused leave time than they would pay me. Had I known I could have taken a month leave and gone to Australia. The Chaplain in 68 had connections with people in Australia and he arranged for his clerk to take a nice leave. A Sheep Rancher and family took him in and he had a great time. All the Australians were about 70 miles from where I was. One of two countries that actually helped the US in Vietnam. South Korea also provided Infantry and other units. The rest of NATO were no better than they are today but then I'm sure they could see the future with the leaders we had at the time. People here don't realize just how large your Country is. I watched a story about a couple helicopter pilots there in Australia and they flew from one end of the country to the other and it took several weeks.
The trees there are so different from ours. Today was the hottest so far here in the south. Rain storms are moving around but none have made it to my little spot. They say we should have 13 hurricanes named this season, hope they all stay well to the east of us.
Top temp here in Adelaide city ,was supposed to be a high of 16c today ,however we walked to the city centre and back 4.5 kms in total and got drenched on way back This is what’s known as the University bridge over the Torrens river ( which is made up of rainwater that falls in the Adelaide hills and flows right through the city) ….then out to sea about 8 Km away …..the Torrens has a weir so it doesn’t run dry in summer
