Did I not post a link? Just type "inverter". You want a 12 volt to 110 inverter.

If you just need something for lights when the power is out, a few solar rechargeable lights will help. We have several of these kind of lanterns, and they can be charged with a usb cord, or in sunlight if you need to charge them when you have no power. They can charge in the sun all day and be ready for use that night.
These are fairly cheap ones, but there are some really nice ones out there if you want to spend the money for those, too.

That's much more affordable light wise.I have one that takes batteries but this is much more economical.Thank you Yvonne.I'll look at those and put them in my cart.We get something called GST in Canada here every 4 months and that's allways when I get a "need" not a "want".These are wonderful.:)

This is probably a little more than Julia wants but for folks who want an inexpensive light with enough output to light a larger area this rechargeable led solar outdoor floodlight is a great item to have on standby. Just put the solar panel in a window that gets a bit of sun (or where house lights give it a few hours of bright light) and leave it plugged in but turned off till needed and you can get about 4 hours of fairly bright light in the whole room before it fades, more if you switch it on and off as reqd. This from CTC but there are a lot of these available elsewhere for $60 or less.

Here is the link I thought I had posted @Julia Curtis. If you just want light, the other options posted are fine. I was talking about something that will keep your WIFI going. The lights @Yvonne Smith posted may charge your phone, so that could be an option as long as cell service is up. We discovered years ago that cell towers can go down even if the landlines are functioning (in a wildfire). If you have cable service or a DSL (especially), it may operate fine if you have enough power to operate the modem and router.

Glad to see that those affected by the hurricane seem to have gotten through it with minimum difficulties. I did hear that more rain is coming on the heels of that storm so I hope that everything continues to go well for everyone.

Yesterday the rain was forecast to start at 9AM today and go all night.
Then it changed to a 3PM to 3AM event.
Now it rained for about 20 minutes, then stopped, then is supposed to rain for 1/2 hour later this evening and be done with.

I only do the online stuff.

WeatherUnderground is a collection of weather stations that folks like you & I buy on Amazon, set up and tie into their network. These stations are then accessible to anyone on the W.U. website to set as their home weather page. The stations transmit temp, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, pressure, etc and the forecasts are customized to that location. There are a bunch near me I can choose from. I can pull up a map of all the stations near me and their current temps.

Weather Underground used to be my favorite weather website...then the Weather Channel bought it and it is not nearly as accurate as it once was. I suspect they substituted the Weather Channel algorithms for the ones Jeff developed.

I did not know that Weather Channel bought them. I was gonna say that the W.U. precip forecasts used to be pretty good, and then attribute the decline to the acquisition, but it seems that the Weather Channel acquired W.U. in 2012. I don't recall when I first started using W.U., but I never used it before moving here in 2010. The forecasts were better until a few years ago.

This answers a question I had regarding the W.U. website hourly forecasts being perfectly synched with Weather.com on my iPhone & watch (Apple's default weather app.) Now I know why.
