I have been reading abut this hurricane, and it sure looks like they think it will make landfall near Galveston , which is pretty close to Houston. Are you getting prepared for this to happen, @Beth Gallagher ? You may be getting more use from your generator sooner than you expected; but at least you have time to stock up on fuel before it hits your area.

I remember when Hurricane Harvey went ashore there, and Ina was trapped in her house for days and days, and it actually did quite a bit of damage to her house, even though it was dry inside because the house was on a high enough foundation.
I imagine people down there are stocking up and getting ready to either ride out the hurricane, or evacuate. Have you had to evacuate before ?

We are keeping an eye on the weather reports but that's about it for now. Predictions for landfall are all over the place.

We have never evacuated though we have been through plenty of hurricanes. We stay home hunkered down and watching the gridlock on the freeways as long as we have power for the TV. I have told my husband I'd rather die right here in our house than on the side of the freeway in the car. During the evacuation for "Rita," people sat in their cars for over 24 hours and never got out of Houston. It was the stuff of nightmares.

I think the worst storm was Ike in 2008. Harvey was devastating to most of Houston but we were high and dry, thank goodness. The worst part is always the aftermath, when power is out and all the cleanup starts.

We will be praying it doesn't affect you, @Beth Gallagher, at least to a significant measure. TP, water...and beer should get you through it. Get the generator and the fuel for it ready.

And as usual, the HoustonCJ section of Reddit does not disappoint.
