Here in Canada, seniors only pay $2.00 per prescription.. Those with a low income pay $2.00 per prescription.. Children under 18 pay $2.00 per prescription.. The rest pay $6.11 per prescription.. All this regardless what the prescription is as long as it was prescribed by a doctor or nurse Practioner.. That goes for refills as well.. As many as the doctor prescribed.. Most long term prescriptions will be given for 90 days at a time.. Renewable every 3 months for only $2.00 Over the counter drugs are NOT covered and we must pay full price..
here in England seniors pay nothing for prescriptions after 60.... ..children are free too until 16 years old or 19 if in full time education, ..the rest pay £9.00 unless they claim unemployment benefits or various other benefits , then they also get their meds free What is unfair in the uk is that..In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland , prescriptions are free for everyone... why we in England have to subsidise those 3 countries I have no idea but it's a source of great irritation to the English... ...
One of my wife's breathing meds costs $120/qtr until she gets into the donut hole and then it's somewhere north of 500
We, in the U.S. are aware of Canada's and the U.K.'s Rx system and our President has been railing at our pharma companies regarding the prices we are charged over here. But, of course our health care system is at fault as well. We don't really have universal health care, regardless of what one calls Obamacare. Medicare for all does not resolve the problem either since one would have to purchase drug coverage insurance. Perhaps if we did not pay out gazillion dollars to a host of other nations for whatever, and stayed out of other folks' wars, we'd be able to have universal health care.
Incidentally regardless of the countrywide free prescriptions for all over 60's here... if I get a prescription written by my private doctor or consultant..rather than my GP on the NHS .. then I have to pay anything between £18 and £27 per item
That's what I have to pay even though I've paid for Rx insurance. All the insurance does is keep that small amount until the donut hole is reached.
You buy them. At some point you can seek govt assistance but I've not reached that point yet. 3 or 4 years ago she had 3 meds that cost over $300/qtr so I started buying them in Canada.
Holly............. Our Medicare system covers us wherever we go in Canada.. its the same all over.. We don't have an area that we support.. Everyone has a health card and all you do ... anywhere .. is present it and you pay the same thing across Canada.. That includes full hospital stays, operations, X-Rays, ambulances, and EVERYTHING !!!
