Indeed. How many times do we see a doctor, mention a pain, and get the condescending "well, you are getting older" diagnosis. Ugh.
@Beth Gallagher So i wonder, there's a lot of doctors up in age and still practising, they must have aches and pains too, so who do they go to, and what do they get told..
I was feeling quite a bit better by the time it was time for bed yesterday. I felt well enough that I tried sleeping in the bed rather than on the recliner. However, after a couple of hours, I was panicking, feeling as if I were paralyzed from the pain that was involved with even turning over onto my side. I could barely stand the pain that was involved in getting up out of bed. Getting down onto the couch recliner was also very painful but I felt okay once I got into place. Today has not been a good day. Getting up out of the couch was painful and I have hurt all day. Plus, my mouth injury seems to be swelling, so that it's hard to eat.
Ken, I'm sorry you are having a rough time of it. I suspect that you are trying to do too much too soon. If your rib is cracked it will take a few weeks to heal, and if you are too active you might prevent it from healing or even re-injure it. Just take it slow, bud. (And put a cold pack on the swelling.)
Did the doctor put any type of wrapping around your chest for possible rib injury? If not maybe a couple of ace bandages would help alleviate some of the pain when moving.
Ken, I had torn cartilage in my ribs once and it took six weeks to heal. When a rib tears away from the cartilage, the injury is called a costochondral separation. It may result from a blow to the ribs, a fall, or landing hard on your feet. It might even be caused by forceful coughing or sneezing. Irritation of a rib is called costochondritis So take it easy and don't rush things
You really are up against a very painful brick wall, remember, patience, know it's hard waiting to feel better, a lot of caring advice and concern from all of us. Time will heal. Back to a question i asked before, do you have a railing on your stairway, if not, would really be a good idea.
I hope you're being facetious because if you are I just had a vision of you hanging on to those handrails for dear life.
As @Sheldon Scott said. Not only is it an injury that takes quite a while to heal, but as we get older, it can take a bit longer.
My back is still painful, but feeling better today. My mouth, however, is more of a problem. A part of it likely has to do with the fact that my back hurt so much that I didn't notice my mouth, so when my back pain decreases, the mouth pain appears to increase. But it does seem to be more swollen than before. Since we're leaving for a timeshare Friday, and my Advantage Plan is only good in Maine and New Hampshire, I went to a walk-in clinic for a prescription for an antibiotic in the event that I need it. The recommendation, which I'll follow, is not to take it unless it gets worse than it is now.
Geez @Ken Anderson , hope you get well or at least alot better soon. However it is going to take much time- so rest when you can.
